Red Rain (produced by the People's Army Film Studio, script by writer Chu Lai) is a feature film about revolutionary war, aimed at commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

The film's content is inspired by the 81 days and nights of heroic and tenacious fighting by the people and soldiers of Quang Tri Citadel in 1972.
Those 81 days and nights have become legendary, one of the most vivid expressions of the Vietnamese people's aspiration for independence, freedom, and national unity during the resistance war against the US to save the country.
The fierce 81-day and 81-night battle to defend Quang Tri Citadel contributed to the victory at the Paris Peace Conference negotiations, paving the way for the great victory of Spring 1975, liberating the South and unifying the country.

The fiery summer of 1972 comes alive through the youthful, courageous faces of Squad 1 – young men in their twenties who, carrying faith and patriotism, entered the battlefield. There was no free sky, only the night ablaze with flares, the fire of bombs and bullets, and the deep red of their dust-stained uniforms.
Amidst the deafening roar of bombs, radiant smiles still shone – because seeing their comrades beside them meant having hope for survival. In their rare moments of rest, they still wrote poetry, composed music, their eyes still sparkling as they did in the lecture halls. From students to farmers – they came here and considered Quang Tri their home. The ancient citadel was their haven, their comrades their family.
They had never held a gun, but when the homeland called, they were ready to set aside their youth, blood, and personal feelings. Some put aside their studies, some, even those underage, wrote letters in blood volunteering to fight. All were ready to "become waves at twenty years old, gently lapping the shore for eternity."

But how can one not feel regret at the age of twenty, when one by one, people are falling? The military doctor (Hua Wei Wen) choked up: "We lose hundreds of people every day."
The epic saga at the ancient citadel that year was written with the shouts of the vanguard, with the sweat, blood, and bones of young soldiers ready to sacrifice themselves for the Fatherland. They advanced, carrying with them their belief in independence and reunification.
The teaser is filled with smoke, fire, bombs, heart-wrenching gazes, and fallen bodies. But in the end, it's the unwavering spirit that resonates, with the resolute words: "Let us go to battle, and we will find the answer!"

To authentically recreate the historical context of the battle at Quang Tri Citadel, the "Red Rain" film crew built a large-scale studio in Quang Tri town, next to the Thach Han River. A version of the citadel was recreated as realistically as possible, reflecting its geographical features and form, including trenches, tunnels, field meeting rooms, and also housing a surgical station, defensive fortifications, and a makeshift airfield.
The film, directed by Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen, features a cast including: Do Nhat Hoang, Phuong Nam, Lam Thanh Nha, Dinh Khang, Hoang Long, Nguyen Hung, Tran Gia Huy, Hua Vi Van...
The film was scheduled to premiere on September 2, 1945.
