On October 23, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son received the US Ambassador to Vietnam, Marc E. Knapper.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the continued positive development of bilateral relations, noting that both sides have undertaken many practical activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In that spirit, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that both sides maintain the positive momentum of bilateral relations, including contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially at the high level.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam desires closer cooperation with the United States in areas of mutual interest within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in science and technology, high-quality human resource training, energy, semiconductors, etc., while continuing to maintain good cooperation in areas such as addressing the consequences of war and building trust.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the continued cooperation and close exchange between the two negotiating teams, and requested the United States to continue considering the specific characteristics of the Vietnamese economy during the negotiation process of the reciprocal tariff agreement between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will continue to increase its purchases of US goods, especially high-tech items such as aircraft and semiconductor products, expanding the market for US goods and creating favorable conditions for US businesses to operate effectively in Vietnam.

Ambassador Knapper emphasized that 2025 is a significant year in bilateral relations, marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi has been and will continue to coordinate with Vietnamese agencies and localities to organize meaningful commemorative activities, looking towards a brighter future for both countries and their peoples.

Ambassador Knapper affirmed that he attaches particular importance to promoting exchanges of delegations and contacts at all levels, including high-level ones, thereby maintaining the substantive and positive momentum of the relationship between the two countries.

Ambassador Knapper expressed gratitude to Vietnam for its positive approach, understanding of US concerns, and proactively promoting negotiations from a very early stage. He affirmed that the US hopes both sides will soon complete negotiations to implement the reciprocal tariff agreement, thereby benefiting both countries.

Ambassador Knapper also affirmed that the U.S. Embassy will closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries and agencies in the coming time to exchange views on measures to expand cooperation in all fields, with the desire for a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam, and a strong Vietnam-U.S. Strategic Partnership that contributes even more to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
