In the past, the Year of the Snake in 1929 saw the Great Depression, the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, and the dot-com bubble burst in 2001. However, feng shui experts predict a positive year in 2025.

The year of the Snake (Ất Tỵ) has the Heavenly Stem Ất, belonging to the Wood element, and the Earthly Branch Tỵ, belonging to the Fire element. Wood symbolizes growth and development, while Fire represents intensity and passion. According to the Five Elements theory, Wood generates Fire, meaning this year will bring growth and optimism.

Raymond Lo, a feng shui expert in Hong Kong (China), said that the element of Fire – symbolizing happiness and optimism – has returned in the Year of the Snake, after disappearing for the past seven years. Fire will bring confidence and boost global economic activity.

In the Five Elements theory, the South direction symbolizes Fire. According to Feng Shui, snakes are often placed in the Southeast direction of a house to bring prosperity. Therefore, Raymond Lo predicts that this year's positive energy will be particularly beneficial for Southeast Asian countries. Asian markets, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Southeast Asian countries, could boom.

The return of the Fire element also boosts people's confidence in spending, shopping, and investing. This benefits the financial market, tourism , cryptocurrencies, aviation, real estate, banking, and gold. Fire is used to refine gold. Therefore, the price of gold often rises sharply in the Year of the Snake.

In its annual Fengshui report, published by the Hong Kong-based brokerage firm CLSA, the firm's feng shui experts also provide predictions about health, relationships, and career prospects in the new year.

This year, according to CLSA's assessment of the five elements, the Metal element is weaker than last year and only strengthens during the autumn and spring months. Therefore, feng shui experts believe that industries related to Metal will be relatively quiet this year. Some typical examples include bicycles, automobiles, watches, and aluminum window frames.

Sectors related to Turkey (infrastructure, antiquities, consulting, secretarial services, etc.) also have room for growth, but not significant. CLSA believes these sectors will have a good start and end of the year, but will not be very active in the middle of the year.

Conversely, the inherently strong Fire element, when combined with Wood, will become even more explosive. Even in months with less Fire, the fire will smolder rather than disappear. Therefore, CSLA predicts that industries related to Fire will have a prosperous year. Not only oil and gas, but also internet businesses and technology companies will thrive.

This year, the Wood element is also very strong. Industries related to Wood that will benefit include consumer goods, sustainable development, textiles, picture frames, and paper rolls.

Meanwhile, the Water element in the year of the Snake (2015) is mainly strong during the summer and winter. Water-related industries such as trade and shipping are predicted to remain vibrant. However, some other industries may not be as prosperous, such as filmmaking or brokerage.

Regarding the Hong Kong stock index (Hang Seng Index), Forest Chan, an analyst at CLSA, expects a "smoother and less surprising performance compared to the Year of the Dragon," he told the SCMP.

The CLSA report also provided predictions for the fortunes of several prominent figures in the Year of the Snake. For example, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, born in the Year of the Rabbit (1963), shares many Wood elements with this year. Because the technology industry is primarily associated with Fire, and one of Huang's personality traits is his dedication to his work, Nvidia continued to prosper while he was in charge.

Those born in the Year of the Rabbit often have a very favorable Year of the Snake. CLSA suggests that Huang can comfortably invest his assets in charitable projects and emerging businesses in the industry. They advise startups to take advantage of this year to promote their ideas to Huang, as by 2027, he may shift his focus to other areas of life.

Another billionaire mentioned in the CLSA report is Mukes Ambani, born in the Year of the Rat in 1957. Those born in the Year of the Rat will be very prosperous in 2025. Much of what he does is likely to bring him abundant wealth. Ambani's social relationships are also predicted to improve significantly. Ambani is expected to increase his charitable giving in the Year of the Snake.

According to feng shui expert and astrologer Jojo Zhou, the Year of the Snake (2015) has Wood generating Fire, representing favorable market conditions. Challenges will gradually lessen. "For the real estate industry, the Wood and Fire elements will fuel buying and selling activity. Although far from peak levels, lower interest rates will have a positive impact on the market," she said.

Zhou also predicted that the market would see many new models and ideas emerge. " Governments and businesses will embrace many opportunities. This is especially important for individuals. By being willing to accept new things and challenges, we can achieve financial success in the new year," she concluded.
