Parents almost cried because the 27,000 VND boarding meal was 'less than the street food'

On April 11, some parents whose children study at Quang Trung Primary School (Hue City) were upset and reported to Tuoi Tre Online that the school's daily meals for their children were far inferior to the street food.

Ms. L. (parent of a 3rd grade student) said she almost cried when she saw the image of her child's lunch at school with only a few dishes.

Accordingly, the photo of the lunch of the 3rd grade students of Quang Trung Primary School on April 11 only contained 2-3 pieces of boiled pork ribs, a piece of fried egg roll, stir-fried green beans and white rice.

Ms. L. said that for each meal at school, parents have to pay 27,000 VND/meal, including 1 lunch and a snack of a box of yogurt in the early afternoon.

In addition, each student must pay an additional 10,000 VND/meal to support staff, boarding teachers, and gas, fish sauce, salt... for each meal.

The total cost of each meal at school is 37,000 VND/meal.

After seeing the above photo, Ms. L. said that many parents in the class were extremely upset. Notably, according to Ms. L., this is not the first time parents of Quang Trung Primary School have complained about the lack of nutrition in the school's lunches, far worse than a meal served on the street.

Previously, in November 2023, parents of the school were also upset when they accidentally saw that their children's lunch only had a few pieces of meat and a few vegetables.

"Many parents, because they were dissatisfied with their children's meals at school, reported that they did not pay for the school meals, and accepted to spend time picking up their children to feed them and then take them back to school in the afternoon," said Ms. L.

Tuoi Tre Online went to Quang Trung Primary School to contact the school's leadership to learn about the incident. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu, the school's vice principal, said she was busy in a meeting and could not provide any information.

The city has worked with schools on boarding meals.

By phone, Tuoi Tre Online also contacted Mr. Nguyen Thuan - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hue City. However, Mr. Thuan said he was preparing for a meeting so he refused to answer.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a leader of the Hue City People's Committee said he had received feedback from parents about the meager, nutritionally inadequate lunch at Quang Trung Primary School at noon on April 11.

This leader informed that he had previously worked with the school's board of directors regarding parents' complaints about the school's lunches and asked the school to learn from their mistakes. However, complaints related to the students' meals continued to appear at the school.

"We will check and verify the information to have appropriate handling if there is a violation," said this leader.
