On April 11th, several parents with children attending Quang Trung Primary School (Hue City) expressed their outrage to Tuoi Tre Online regarding the school's daily lunch program, claiming that the meals provided to their children were far inferior to those served on the streets.
Ms. L. (a parent of a third-grade student) said she almost cried when she saw the picture of her child's lunch at school, which consisted of only a few meager dishes.
Accordingly, the photo of the lunch served to third-grade students at Quang Trung Primary School on April 11th showed only 2-3 pieces of boiled pork ribs, a piece of fried egg omelet, stir-fried green beans, and white rice.
Ms. L. said that parents have to pay 27,000 VND per meal at the school, which includes lunch and a snack of yogurt in the early afternoon.
In addition, each student must pay an extra 10,000 VND per meal to support the boarding school staff and teachers, as well as for gas, fish sauce, salt, etc., used in each meal.
The total cost for each school lunch is 37,000 VND/meal.
After seeing the photo, Ms. L. said that many parents in the class were extremely upset. Notably, according to Ms. L., this is not the first time parents at Quang Trung Primary School have complained about the school's lunch meals being nutritionally inadequate, far inferior to a street food stall meal.
Earlier in November 2023, parents at the school were also outraged when they accidentally saw that their children's lunch consisted of only a few pieces of meat and some vegetables.

"Many parents, dissatisfied with their children's meals at school, have announced they will not pay for the school lunch program, choosing instead to spend time picking their children up to eat at home before taking them back to school in the afternoon," Ms. L. said.
Tuổi Trẻ Online contacted Quang Trung Primary School's leadership to inquire about the incident. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu, the school's vice principal, said she was busy in a meeting and could not provide information at this time.
The city had previously worked with the school on school lunch programs.
By phone, Tuoi Tre Online also contacted Mr. Nguyen Thuan, head of the Hue City Department of Education and Training. However, Mr. Thuan said he was preparing for a meeting and declined to answer.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , a leader of the Hue City People's Committee said that they had received feedback from parents about the meager and nutritionally inadequate school lunch at Quang Trung Primary School on the afternoon of April 11.
The leader stated that they had previously worked with the school's administration regarding parents' complaints about the school lunch and requested the school to learn from the experience. However, complaints related to students' meals continue to surface at the school.
"We will investigate and verify the information to take appropriate action if any violations are found," the leader said.
