The Parent-Teacher Association of Trung Vuong High School (Ho Chi Minh City), consisting of 5 members, arrived early to tour the food preparation area, inspect each food tray, and monitor the sample retention process as required.

The school lunch menu on December 18th consists of four savory dishes for students to choose from, along with a soup and a stir-fried dish. Specifically, it includes: Soup, boiled sweet cabbage, minced meat, fried chicken thigh, braised pork with tofu, fried fish fillet, and yogurt for dessert.

Joining the inspection team, Mr. Le Trung Kien, a parent of a 10th-grade student, suggested that with the current price, the school should consider increasing the price by about 2,000 VND per meal to improve the quality of the food.

Kien suggested: "It's not necessary to have four main dishes at every meal. Three dishes are sufficient, as long as they are nutritious, varied, and plentiful."

In addition, Mr. Kien suggested that the school research flexible meal options. For students whose meals don't suit their taste, simple alternatives like fried eggs or porridge could be prepared to minimize waste.

Joining the delegation, Mr. Trinh Van Thoai said that he had personally inspected the kitchen and sampled the meals many times. According to him, the food quality is guaranteed, the ingredients are fresh, have a clear origin, and the processing procedures comply with food safety regulations.

However, regarding the portion sizes, Mr. Thoai said there are still two opposing opinions. Some parents believe the portions do not meet their needs, while many others consider the meals sufficient. The parent representatives have worked with the school and the meal provider to make timely adjustments.

According to the Parents' Representative Board of Trung Vuong High School, there is a difference in dietary needs between male and female students. While many male students complain that the portions are too small, female students consider the current meal portions to be adequate. Therefore, parents propose that the school establish a hotline to receive direct feedback regarding the school lunch program.

According to Ms. Luong Bich Nga, Vice Principal of Trung Vuong High School, the school has repeatedly discussed the quality and quantity of meals with students. At the dialogue on November 24th, the majority of students assessed the basic meal portions as appropriate. Previously, the meal provider had also adjusted the quantity upwards based on feedback from parents and the Parent Representative Board.

Regarding the complaints about inadequate food portions, Ms. Nga stated that the school had worked with its partner and agreed to adjust the specific quantities to make them easier to monitor.

According to Ms. Nga, previous meal checks were mainly based on observation, making accuracy difficult. Therefore, the school and the canteen have agreed to establish a standard template for each dish, clearly specifying the quantities, such as the number of pieces of fish or the number of portions of meat. If a meal is found to be smaller than the standard, the teacher will immediately request additional portions.

Regarding the proposed increase of 2,000 VND per meal, Ms. Nga stated that the school will consider the matter and seek parental feedback to reach a consensus. "For now, we are focusing on improving the quality and quantity of meals, ensuring students are well-fed, in line with the current fee," Ms. Nga emphasized.

Previously, on December 17, 2025, images of a school lunch served to students at Trung Vuong High School were circulating on social media. The meal consisted of white rice, stir-fried green beans, and a main dish. Many people, after seeing the school lunch, expressed dissatisfaction, claiming the portion size was too small and meager compared to the price.
