Women in Ham Can overcome difficulties to develop the economy.

Việt NamViệt Nam01/11/2023

Overcoming obstacles, many ethnic minority women in Ham Can commune, Ham Thuan Nam district, have strived to develop their family economies and actively participate in social activities. They are exemplary models of diligence and creativity in labor and production, striving to overcome difficulties and inspiring other women to progress and contribute to the overall development of the locality.

Having just returned from harvesting corn in the fields, Ms. Nguyen Thi My Bong (born in 1980 in Hamlet 2) is busy preparing her dragon fruit orchard for the year-end harvest using artificial lighting. "I've gotten used to it, so when I'm relaxed I feel tired," said the petite woman of the Rai ethnic group.

Like other women in Ham Can, Nguyen Thi My Bong dropped out of school early and was expected to get married when she reached marriageable age. However, when she moved out on her own, both her and her husband's families were struggling financially, so they independently cleared land for farming, worked as laborers, and borrowed money from the bank to cultivate corn. Thanks to their hard work and adherence to proper farming techniques, their annual agricultural yields were quite good. Coupled with their frugal spending habits, after three years, she repaid the bank loan. The couple bought more land to grow dragon fruit, which significantly improved their living standards and allowed them to invest in their children's university education.

In Ham Can, the Women's Union of the commune pays great attention to implementing forms of support for production development, improving employment, income, and living standards for its members and women. Through entrusted loan funds from the Social Policy Bank, women have been able to rise out of poverty sustainably.

Another exemplary woman is Ms. Mang Thi Chanh (born in 1982). With her agility and excellent management skills, Ms. Chanh not only invested in corn cultivation but also boldly borrowed capital from the poverty alleviation program and business production funds to raise buffaloes, pigs, and goats. According to her calculations, with over 20 goats, 4 buffaloes, and 2 sows, her family earns a significant amount of fertilizer and a regular income each year.

Not only are they successful in business, but Ms. Nguyen Thi My Bong and Ms. Mang Thi Chanh are also very enthusiastic women's association leaders in the movements of the Women's Union of the commune and the locality. They readily share their experiences in production and labor to encourage everyone to actively participate in economic development and achieve high efficiency. Furthermore, they promote and guide women in building prosperous, equal, progressive, and happy families.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Ham Can commune, said: "With willpower, determination, diligence, and creativity in labor and production, the women have risen above their circumstances, changed their mindset and perceptions, no longer relying on the State, and are ready to support other members to develop together. Currently, the entire commune only has 124 members who are near-poor and head of households."
