5G coverage - improving connectivity quality

Over the past period, Viettel Lai Chau has been stepping up investment and deployment of 5G network infrastructure, gradually expanding coverage to communes and wards throughout the province.

Bringing 5G technology closer to the people, Viettel Lai Chau focuses its resources on investing in and modernizing telecommunications infrastructure in a synchronized manner, with the people at the center. 5G technology is being deployed according to a suitable roadmap, expanding to residential areas throughout the province. Along with investing in base stations, the company is promoting awareness and guiding people to experience, install, and use the service. Simultaneously, it is coordinating with local authorities to survey and optimize coverage, ensuring stable signal quality suitable for mountainous terrain. To date, 5G networks have been deployed in most communes and wards in the province, improving internet access speeds, enhancing the quality of digital services, and effectively serving online learning, work, and transactions. The company has built 183 5G base stations, bringing coverage to over 60% of the province's population. In addition, the system of over 980 BTS stations has helped increase 4G and 5G coverage to approximately 97%, ensuring smooth communication over a wide area. Fixed broadband internet infrastructure has also been expanded, now covering more than 82% of communes.

Viettel Lai Chau continues to expand its telecommunications services and digital solutions. Currently, the unit serves more than 280,000 mobile subscribers, accounting for nearly 70% of the market share in the area. Fiber optic internet and digital television services have reached more than 30,000 households; digital solutions have been deployed to nearly 800 agencies and businesses, contributing to improved operational efficiency, management, and administration.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Nguyen, Director of Viettel Lai Chau, stated: “The 5G network has covered nearly 60% of the population, expanding to almost all communes and wards in the province. The unit will continue to invest in expanding infrastructure to meet the increasing needs of people and businesses. With its advantages in speed and stability, 5G will effectively support operational activities, data exploitation, and the development of new business models such as online sales and the promotion of local products.”

With improved connectivity, people have proactively applied technology to economic development, gradually changing their production and business methods towards modernization. Ms. Chu Nhu Pa (Doan Ket ward) has effectively utilized social media platforms to livestream the sale of agricultural products, promoting local products to customers in many provinces and cities, bringing economic benefits. Ms. Pa shared: “I mainly sell characteristic agricultural products of the people in Thu Lum commune such as forest honey, lemongrass essential oil, and Gynostemma pentaphyllum tea… Previously, sales mainly depended on regular customers, and the quantity was not large. Since using 5G, the network speed is faster and more stable, the livestreaming process is not interrupted, the image is clear, helping to increase interaction with customers.”

Thanks to stable 5G signals, many people in the province are livestreaming to sell goods and promote local products.

Many households in the province are gradually adopting and applying digital technology to their business activities. The use of smartphones, combined with high-speed internet, helps farmers be more proactive in promoting and introducing their products, connecting with the market, and no longer relying entirely on traditional trading methods. Furthermore, digital platforms facilitate access to market information, the exchange of production and business experiences, and the improvement of product quality. This is considered a suitable direction in the context of the ongoing digital transformation, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products and improving the lives of people in the area.

To ensure the system operates stably, the Viettel Lai Chau technical team regularly inspects and maintains the base stations. Quang Van Trong (a Viettel Lai Chau technical staff member) shared: “We maintain regular maintenance of the equipment at the stations; check and optimize signal quality and promptly address any signal loss points. At the same time, we are ready to resolve any issues that arise to ensure uninterrupted communication. During important provincial events, the technical team is on duty at the stations to monitor and ensure the system operates stably.”

Thanks to 5G coverage, the quality of telecommunications services has improved, helping to narrow the digital divide between regions. People are increasingly able to access information faster, participate in digital economic activities, gradually change production and business methods, and open up many opportunities for socio-economic development.
