On January 23 , Sohu reported that the Lanzhou City Procuratorate, Gansu Province (China) announced that it had cracked down on a large-scale investment fraud in the film industry. The incident is receiving great public attention.
According to the police, 4 film and television media companies and 12 films are involved in the case. Notable among them are The Man starring Aaron Kwok and Miriam Yeung, and The Lover of the Gangster starring Shu Qi. Many other artists such as Liu Yan, Ling Xiao Su, Ding Hai Feng, etc. also participated in these film projects.
Aaron Kwok
According to the investigation, the gang used social media platforms to attract investors to buy shares in film projects. By exaggerating production costs and expected box office revenue, investors would spend large sums of money to buy shares in the films.
Lanzhou City Procuratorate said that part of the fraud money was paid to the film producer, the rest was used by the criminals for personal purposes.
Shu Qi.
According to Sina , Mr. Quiao, 85 years old, was a victim of this gang. The subjects introduced him to a movie starring Aaron Kwok and Miriam Yeung and hyped that the movie would bring in huge profits. Mr. Quiao said he invested about 1.1 million USD (about 26 billion VND) to get shareholder rights and enjoy profits from the movie.

Suspecting that the production unit and artists involved in the project were also involved in the scam and illegally profited, the audience continuously criticized Shu Qi, Aaron Kwok, and Yang Tian Hua on social media platforms. Some viewers defended the artists, saying that they were only implicated and did not benefit from the scam.
Currently, the incident has caused a lot of controversy but no artist has officially responded.
