Promoting craft villages on an international scale

Hanoi has 1,350 craft villages of all kinds, including world-famous ones such as Bat Trang pottery, Van Phuc silk, etc. Production activities in craft villages bring great economic value. Therefore, the city actively implements activities to preserve and promote values.

Hanoi not only has a large number of craft villages, but these craft villages also bring high economic value. Of the 1,350 craft villages and villages with occupations, 334 craft villages and traditional craft villages have been recognized.

Each craft village has its own strengths, creating products that are both environmentally friendly and imbued with national cultural identity.

Of the city’s 3,000 OCOP products, about 800 come from craft villages. The total production value of 334 recognized craft villages in Hanoi is over VND24,000 billion per year.

Recently, Bat Trang pottery village and Van Phuc silk village have become members of the World Network of Creative Craft Cities.

To continue promoting craft village products, promoting the preservation of cultural values, honoring artisans, and promoting international exchanges, the Hanoi People's Committee coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to organize the International Craft Village Conservation and Development Festival in 2025.

In addition to the 11 main events taking place over 5 days from November 14-18 at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Relic Site, there are also 6 side events taking place from September to November with the participation of typical domestic and international businesses, craft villages, artisans, and skilled workers.

The Festival program includes: incense offering ceremony, opening ceremony, product display space, and reception of international delegations.

There are also seminars, product competitions, fairs, investment promotions, Kokan-Uzbekistan international festival, activities in craft villages...

To prepare well for the Festival, on July 14, the City People's Committee assigned the City People's Committee Office to preside over, guide procedures according to regulations and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to welcome and receive international delegations.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is the standing agency, providing overall advice and presiding over the organization of activities including: Building the overall scenario, designing the main stage and logistics conditions; presiding over the decoration and visual propaganda work at the Festival venues and some key streets as well as presiding over the organization of the incense offering ceremony at Kinh Thien Palace, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, inviting craft villages, artisans, businesses, and cooperatives inside and outside Hanoi to participate in displaying and demonstrating products.

Relevant departments and branches coordinate to ensure security and order, traffic safety, food hygiene and safety...

The city also requested units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with agencies to organize Festival activities effectively, with quality and safety.
