Promoting Vietnamese Lion and Dragon Dance in France

VHO - With the desire to promote Vietnamese culture, bring Vietnamese Lion and Dragon Dance to the international community, develop it widely and aim for high-level competition, the Vietnam Lion and Dragon Dance Federation, in coordination with the Vietnam Martial Arts Federation (Vovinam) in France, organized a lion and dragon dance training course from November 4-5, 2023 for French lion dance teams from many major French cities such as Marseilles, Bordeaux, Lyon, Caen...

In the suburbs of Paris, Ambassador Le Thi Hong Van, Permanent Representative of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in France, beat the opening drum, setting the rhythm for a magnificent drum performance, rich in traditional Vietnamese culture. Lion and dragon dances, along with performances by Vietnamese martial arts schools in France such as Vovinam, Son Long Quyen Thuat, Minh Long, etc., thrilled and delighted all the audience present.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Lion and Dragon Dance Federation, martial arts master Pham Quang Long, shared that Vietnamese lion and dragon dance has a history of thousands of years, as depicted in Dong Ho folk paintings and Hang Trong paintings. According to him, lion and dragon dance is based on martial arts movements, so those who study martial arts are very suitable to practice this art form.

Martial arts master Pham Quang Long affirmed that, with the aim of promoting Vietnamese culture to the international community, the Vietnam Lion and Dragon Dance Federation has established training centers that can provide free support and guidance to units, organizations, and individuals who want to return to Vietnam to train in Lion and Dragon Dance.
According to Tran Nguyen Dao, Chairman of the World Vovinam Council, Vovinam has existed and developed in Europe for nearly 50 years, and the Lion Dance can rely on Vovinam to expand its scale throughout Europe and the world.
Earlier, Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang received the Vietnam Lion, Dragon, and Unicorn Dance Federation, led by its President, Mr. Pham Quang Long, who was performing in France.
The Vietnam Lion and Dragon Dance Federation was newly established on April 15, 2023. This is the first time the federation has organized a performance abroad, which is of particular importance, contributing to the development of this folk art form and promoting the image of Vietnam to international friends.
