Quang Ngai: Cracks discovered in the ground, risk of landslides, 28 households urgently evacuated

On October 31, the Defense Command of Region 1 - Son Tinh coordinated with the People's Committee of Tay Tra Bong commune, Quang Ngai province, to urgently evacuate 28 households from areas at high risk of landslides.

At around 10am on October 31, at group 4, Tra Van village, Tay Tra Bong commune, people discovered signs of landslides around group 4, with cracks over 400m long and 10-30cm wide. Immediately upon discovery, people reported to the People's Committee of Tay Tra Bong commune.

Ground cracks and subsidence were detected in group 4.

The Defense Command of Region 1 - Son Tinh inspected areas around landslide-prone locations.

Receiving the request of the local government and under the direction of the Military Command of Quang Ngai province, the Defense Command of Area 1 - Son Tinh coordinated with the People's Committee of Tay Tra Bong commune to organize forces to go to each house to propagate, mobilize and support 28 households, with over 170 people, to evacuate from areas at high risk of landslides.

Actively evacuate people to safety

The Defense Command of Area 1 - Son Tinh also sent standing forces to coordinate with the police and local organizations at the locations, erecting barriers, placing warning signs and organizing guards, not allowing people to return to the landslide area until safety was ensured.

The Defense Command of Region 1 - Son Tinh donated 10 boxes of dry food to the displaced people.

28 households were relocated to 3 evacuation sites including the kindergarten, the commune health station and the old Tra Nham Commune Military Command. The forces ensured accommodation for the people. Along with that, the Defense Command of Area 1 - Son Tinh donated 10 boxes of dry food to Tay Tra Bong Commune to distribute to people at the evacuation sites.
