Quang NinhHa Long City organized a peak inspection period combined with a campaign to collect waste on Ha Long Bay with the participation of many forces.
Inspection and waste collection activities will take place continuously for a month, from March 26, with the participation of police, army, youth volunteers and people.
The move took place after many reports of garbage floating in Ha Long Bay "in rows" in the first months of the year, the time when international visitors came to visit the most popular tourist attractions, causing many visitors to express disappointment.
According to officials of Quang Ninh province, the source of waste generation in Ha Long Bay comes from materials and foam floats dispersed during the process of restoring order in illegal aquaculture in neighboring localities and garbage from fishing grounds. sewers and drainage ditches in residential areas on the shore. In addition, the activities of fishing boats and tourist boats spending the night on the bay also generate a large amount of waste.
Every day, the People's Committee of Ha Long City and the Bay Management Board collect about 4 tons of waste, mainly buoys, foam, plastic bags, bamboo rafts, and a portion of household waste. "Trash collection on the bay takes place regularly, management units have a hard time maintaining hygiene along the shore and on the bay," said a leader of Ha Long City People's Committee.
In addition to garbage collection, Ha Long City has assigned the People's Committees of coastal communes and wards to regularly collect and clean up the environment in coastal areas and open ditches, to prevent stagnant waste from flowing into the sea.
In the long term, Ha Long City has proposed to the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province to assign all waste collection activities on the bay to one focal point for Ha Long City to process and research and build shields to prevent waste from Sewers from residential areas flow directly into Ha Long Bay.
In September 9, when recognizing the Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba archipelago complex as a World Heritage Site, the World Heritage Committee under UNESCO also expressed concern about the pollution problem at the heritage site and called on Vietnam to Nam strengthens solution measures.
