On the morning of June 15, 2023, Phan Rí Cửa town, Tuy Phong district, held a ceremony to launch a drug prevention campaign with the participation of local leaders, along with a large number of officials, civil servants, union members, association members, police officers, Hoa Minh border guard station staff, and students in the area.
The launching ceremony was held in response to the peak month for drug prevention (June 1-30) and the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 every year. This aims to foster unity and mobilize the strength of the entire political system in the fight against the drug problem.
Phan Rí Cửa town is a key area in the province regarding drug-related issues, with all 21 neighborhoods having drug addicts. As of June 2023, there were 156 drug addicts present in the area. 76 of these addicts were undergoing methadone replacement therapy. 214 individuals had prior convictions related to drug offenses. Following the directives of the province and district, Phan Rí Cửa town has established numerous models for maintaining security and order, preventing drug abuse, and actively dismantled drug hotspots and complex drug-related areas to transform the locality. In the first six months of 2023, the police force apprehended 15 cases/17 individuals for illegal possession and use of drugs; the town police also compiled dossiers to request compulsory drug rehabilitation for 52 people under Government Decree 116.
However, given the forecast that the drug problem in the area remains complex, the leaders of Phan Rí Cửa town launched a drug prevention and control campaign at the launching ceremony. The key task is to leverage the unity of the entire political system and the coordination between the police, border guards, and neighborhood authorities to accurately identify the number of addicts and the locations of drug hotspots. This will lead to a shift in the content and methods of drug prevention and control propaganda, and the development of plans to crack down on various types of crimes and drug hotspots.
Leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Youth Union of Phan Rí Cửa town also called on officials, union members, association members, and students in the area to join hands with the local authorities in drug prevention and control. Accordingly, each official, union member, association member, and student should be an active communicator of drug prevention and control content to their families, relatives, and friends, saying no to drugs. Through this, they will contribute to the local efforts to transform the area and eradicate drug abuse in the locality.
Following the ceremony, police, military , Hoa Minh border guard station, and youth union members marched along the main streets of the town to raise awareness and demonstrate their determination to successfully implement the 2023 anti-drug campaign.
