This means that all seven members of BTS are currently serving in the South Korean military or are in the process of enlisting.
"We would like to inform fans that RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook have begun their military enlistment process," the band's agency, BIGHIT Music , announced.
All 7 members of BTS have served their mandatory military service.
"Four artists are preparing to fulfill their mandatory military service. We will inform you of further updates at the appropriate time. We hope you will continue to love and support RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook until they complete their military service and return safely. Our company will do its utmost to support our artists," the statement said.
Military service is compulsory in South Korea, where most healthy men are required to serve in the military for 18 months.
The South Korean National Assembly passed a bill in 2020 allowing pop stars – specifically those "excelling in popular culture and arts" – to defer military service until age 30.
In October 2022, BIGHIT Music announced that the band members would begin their mandatory military service, with Jin, the oldest member, being the first.
Jin turned 30 in 2022, and the band also announced a temporary hiatus from group music to pursue solo projects in June of that year. Members J-Hope and SUGA enlisted in the military earlier this year.
BTS performed at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
According to BIGHIT Music, BTS is expected to reunite around 2025.
BTS was formed in 2013 with seven members: RM, Jin, V, J-Hope, SUGA, Jimin, and Jung Kook. The band has continued to achieve global fame, with number-one singles in over 100 countries worldwide.
In 2022, BTS was the 5th most streamed group in the world on Spotify and the most streamed K-pop artist.
