This means that all 7 members of BTS are currently serving in the South Korean military or are in the process of enlisting.
"We would like to inform fans that RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook have begun their military enlistment process," the band's label BIGHIT Music said in a statement.
All 7 BTS members are performing military service.
"The four artists are preparing to carry out their military service. We will inform you of further updates at the appropriate time. We ask for your continued love and support for RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook until they complete their military service and return safely. Our company will do our best to support our artists," the statement said.
Military service is compulsory in South Korea, where most able-bodied men must serve in the military for 18 months.
South Korea's National Assembly passed a bill in 2020 that would allow pop stars — specifically those who "excelled in the field of popular culture and arts" — to postpone their military service until age 30.
In October 2022, BIGHIT Music announced that the band members would begin their military service, with Jin, the oldest member, being the first.
Jin turns 30 in 2022, and the band also announced a hiatus from group music to pursue solo projects in June of that year. Members J-Hope and SUGA enlisted in the military earlier this year.
BTS to perform at the 2022 Grammy Awards
According to BIGHIT Music, BTS is expected to reunite around 2025.
BTS formed in 2013 with seven members: RM, Jin, V, J-Hope, SUGA, Jimin and Jung Kook. The band went on to achieve global fame, with number-one singles in over 100 countries around the world.
In 2022, BTS was the 5th most streamed group in the world on Spotify and the most streamed K-pop artist.
