During the summer holidays, every Monday to Thursday evening, the Chu Mau neighborhood cultural center in Nam Son ward is filled with the clear, melodious voices of the free Quan Ho folk singing class organized by the neighborhood's Youth Union. Under the dedicated guidance of artists from the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Song Theater and the enthusiastic youth union members, each sweet melody and tune is sung with passion by the children, a testament to the enduring vitality and continuation of their homeland's cultural heritage in the hearts of the younger generation.
The Quan Ho Club of Thuong village, Phat Tich commune, is guiding children in learning Quan Ho folk songs. |
Nguyen Ngoc Huyen, from Chu Mau area, shared: “Every evening I eagerly go to singing lessons. The artisans teach me ancient Quan Ho songs such as: Ly Cay Da, Long Lanh, Lung Lieng, Buon Bac Buon Dau… From then on, I love the Quan Ho melodies of my homeland even more.”
In Phat Tich commune, the Quan Ho Club of Thuong village also opened free singing classes for children aged 4 to 14 right after their summer break. Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen, the head of the Quan Ho Club of Thuong village, shared: "Wearing the graceful costumes of the Quan Ho singers, the children's faces all showed joy and pride."
Besides physical training and life skills activities, teaching Quan Ho folk singing to children during the summer has become a prominent activity, organized collaboratively by Youth Union branches, schools, and Quan Ho villages. Many classes have been opened in wards such as Kinh Bac, Vu Ninh, Thuan Thanh, and communes like Tien Du and Yen Phong, with the participation of folk artists and artisans. Here, children not only learn to sing but also gain knowledge about Quan Ho culture and costumes. A notable highlight of the 2025 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign is that the Bac Ninh Provincial Youth Union invited famous artists to their hometowns to directly teach students.
At Thai Bao Primary and Secondary School in Nhan Thang commune, over 600 students had the opportunity to experience a special lesson with musician and singer Tuan Cry and singer Minh Ngoc, the winner of "Ultimate Children's Duet." In addition to short-term singing classes, the Bac Ninh Provincial Youth Activities Center (under the Provincial Youth Union) annually maintains the "Bac Ninh Province Expanded Quan Ho Singing Competition." Teaching Quan Ho to young generations is not only a meaningful summer activity but also directly contributes to nurturing their souls and fostering love for their homeland and country in the next generation.
