Inspiration from family
Ronaldo has been virtually invisible since winning the Saudi Pro League with Al Nassr, his first title since moving to Saudi Arabia in 2023. The 41-year-old star is isolated from the rest of the team, who are busy preparing for the 2026 World Cup. These rare days off with his family are seen as the most effective way for Ronaldo to recharge his energy before his sixth World Cup, and his final attempt to win the trophy – the only one missing from his collection.

"It's so nice to be home, to be with my family," Ronaldo wrote on June 1st, accompanying the message with a photo of him, his wife, and their children standing in front of their familiar home in Quinta da Marinha, Cascais (Portugal). The photo highlights the meaning of peace and joy from family, a direct contrast to the intensity of his demanding schedule ahead.
"There were no sporting statements or messages from Ronaldo related to the Portuguese national team and the busy and high-pressure World Cup journey ahead. Ronaldo's post remained personal, but it appeared at a time when everything around him was being viewed through the lens of the World Cup narrative. This shows that Ronaldo wanted to truly enjoy the moment with his family before the whirlwind of big matches, where he wants to leave his biggest mark on a tournament that has already shaped a large part of his legacy," commented Marca (Spain).
Start training
"The World Cup campaign has begun," Ronaldo wrote upon arriving at the Portuguese national team training camp yesterday, June 2nd, and immediately beginning training. His determination was evident on his face. He and his teammates trained at Cidade do Futebol, Oeiras (Portugal), before preparing for two friendly matches against Chile and Nigeria on June 7th and 11th respectively. Afterward, he and the entire team will travel to the United States, based in Palm Beach, Florida, for the duration of the 2026 World Cup campaign.
At the 2026 World Cup, the Portuguese national team is in Group K. They will play Congo at 0:00 on June 18th, Uzbekistan at 0:00 on June 24th, and their final group stage match against Colombia at 6:30 on June 28th.
"This final chapter is crucial for Ronaldo on his path to winning the 2026 World Cup. He has prepared for this journey, starting with the joy of his family. It promises to be a very different Ronaldo at the upcoming World Cup, one who no longer wants to be at the center of every event. He may step back, prioritizing the team and his teammates, for a more cohesive and stronger Portugal on their journey to glory. Ronaldo's final World Cup could have a very fulfilling ending," Marca stated.
