According to the latest survey by analytics service StatCounter, Safari is being used as the primary web browser on 11.87% of computers worldwide, 0.87% higher than Microsoft Edge (which ranks third with 11%), even though it is the default web application on Windows – the world's most popular computer operating system.
During the same period last year, Edge surpassed Safari by a margin of 0.1%, primarily due to the widespread adoption of Windows 11, a platform heavily invested in by Microsoft with the goal of making Edge the default browser.

Safari web browser gains market share thanks to rising Mac sales.
The rise of Safari—the default web browser on macOS systems—reflects the growth in global Mac sales in 2022, despite supply constraints. Increased user interest in Mac models using Apple's M-series chips boosted sales of these devices to $11.5 billion in the final quarter of 2022, up $2.5 billion year-on-year.
In fiscal year 2022, Mac computers generated total revenue of $40.1 billion for Apple, an increase of $5 billion compared to 2021. In Q4 2022, half of Mac buyers were first-time customers, contributing significantly to Safari's increased market share.
Google Chrome remains at the top of the list, showing no signs of being replaced anytime soon, holding a 66.13% global market share. Thus, the combined market share of the remaining browsers is still lower than Chrome's. In fourth place is Mozilla's Firefox with 5.65%. Following closely are Opera (3.09%) and IE (0.55%). Notably, IE was disabled by Microsoft on February 14, 2023, and users have been unable to access the software since that date.
