According to data from the Federal Statistics Service of Russia, this figure represents a 15.2% increase compared to February and a 13.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Previously, the record high monthly LNG production was set in January 2026. Overall, in the first quarter of 2026, Russia's total LNG production reached 9.5 million tons, a 9.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
Notably, this record production level occurred amidst a sharp increase in LNG exports to Europe. According to calculations based on data from the European energy research organization Bruegel, Russian LNG supplies to the European Union in March 2026 reached 2.46 billion cubic meters – the highest level ever.
This trend reflects increasing energy demand in Europe amid volatile global supply. After drastically cutting pipeline gas imports from Russia since 2022, many EU countries continue to purchase LNG from Russia as a flexible alternative source, especially as supplies from the Middle East and other regions are disrupted due to geopolitical tensions.
Data from energy market monitoring organizations shows that in the first quarter of 2026, Europe's LNG imports from Russia continued to remain high compared to the same period last year, indicating a certain dependence of the region on Russian LNG supplies in the short term, despite efforts to diversify energy sources.
