For personal cars with up to 9 seats whose vehicle inspection validity expires from July 1, 2024 onwards, the regulation allowing automatic renewal of inspection will no longer apply.
The Traffic Newspaper hotline received a reader's question regarding their family car's vehicle inspection expiring on July 18, 2024. The reader asked how to automatically renew the inspection.
Regarding this issue, the head of the Vehicle Inspection Center in Hanoi stated that, according to the regulations in Circular 08/2023 amending and supplementing Circular 02/2023 and Circular 16/2021 on technical safety and environmental protection inspection of road transport vehicles, cars with inspection deadlines from July 1, 2024 onwards will not be automatically renewed.
Only vehicles whose registration has expired or will expire within the next four days (before July 1, 2024) are eligible for automatic registration renewal.
Specifically, the Circular stipulates that automatic vehicle inspection renewal only applies to passenger cars with up to 9 seats that are not registered for commercial transport (manufactured within the last 7 years and between 13 and 20 years) that were issued a Certificate and Inspection Sticker before March 22, 2023, and are valid until July 1, 2024.
Therefore, in the case of your family car, the vehicle inspection certificate will not be automatically renewed because the inspection deadline is after June 30, 2024.
Therefore, the regulation on automatic renewal of vehicle inspection certificates now only applies to vehicles whose inspection certificates have expired or whose certificates are due within the next four days. Furthermore, from now until December 30, 2024, all vehicles whose inspection certificates were automatically renewed will have their renewal period expire and must undergo inspection to obtain a new inspection certificate and inspection sticker to be eligible to participate in traffic.
Currently, vehicle inspections at inspection centers nationwide are relatively quiet, with no long wait times. Therefore, for vehicles whose inspections are expiring within the next four days, even if they are automatically extended, owners should still have their vehicles inspected to avoid overcrowding during the year-end period.
Particularly with the simultaneous trials of numerous vehicle inspection cases at inspection centers nationwide scheduled for mid-July 2024, there is a real risk of a shortage of inspectors due to their participation in trials and subsequent sentence enforcement; many inspection centers also face the risk of temporary closure.
This means that vehicle inspection activities are very likely to be affected, leading to congestion and overload at inspection centers in the last months of the year.
In addition, the Vietnam Registering and Inspection Department also warns that there is currently a situation where people are impersonating officials from inspection centers to offer paid services for renewing vehicle registration.
Therefore, vehicle owners need to be vigilant, should not follow these instructions, and should promptly report the matter to the authorities so that timely action can be taken to prevent and address the issue.
