Regarding this issue, the leader of the Registration Center in Hanoi said that according to the provisions of Circular 08/2023 amending and supplementing Circular 02/2023 and Circular 16/2021 regulating the technical safety and environmental protection inspection of road vehicles, automobiles with an inspection period from July 1, 2024 onwards will not have their inspection automatically extended.

Only cars whose registration has expired or will expire in the next 4 days (before July 1, 2024) are subject to the automatic registration extension regulation.

Specifically, the Circular stipulates: Automatic registration extension only applies to passenger cars with up to 9 seats that are not registered for transport business (with a production period of up to 7 years and a production period of 13-20 years) that have been granted a Certificate and Inspection Stamp before March 22, 2023 and are valid until July 1, 2024.

Therefore, in the case of your family car, the Giao Thong Newspaper reader will not have its registration automatically extended due to the inspection deadline after June 30, 2024.

Thus, the regulation on automatic renewal of vehicle registration only applies to vehicles whose registration has expired or is due for registration within the next 4 days. In addition, from now until December 30, 2024, all vehicles with automatic registration renewal will expire and must undergo inspection to be issued a new Registration Certificate and Inspection Sticker to be eligible to participate in traffic.

Currently, according to records, vehicle inspection activities at inspection centers across the country are quite quiet, no longer have to wait long for their turn to be inspected. Therefore, for vehicles whose inspection has expired or will expire in the next 4 days, even though the inspection is automatically extended, vehicle owners should still take their vehicles for inspection to avoid overcrowding of vehicles that need to be inspected at the end of the year.

Especially in mid-July 2024, many vehicle inspection cases at vehicle inspection units across the country will be brought to trial simultaneously, with the risk of a shortage of vehicle inspectors due to having to participate in trials as well as serve sentences after trial; many vehicle inspection centers are also at risk of temporarily ceasing operations.

This means that vehicle inspection activities will likely be affected, leading to congestion and vehicle inspection overload in the last months of the year.

In addition, the Vietnam Register also warned that there is currently a situation of impersonating officers of registration centers to advise on paid registration renewal services.

Therefore, car owners need to be alert, should not follow and promptly report to the authorities for timely handling and prevention measures.
