The longest tunnel on Dien Chau highway is about to open

The right branch of Than Vu tunnel on Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway, 1,131m long, has been dug by the contractor, Hoa Hiep Company Limited.

The weather is not favorable at this time, but at the Than Vu tunnel construction site (part of the Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway Project), more than 100 workers with many modern machines and equipment are still at the construction site, competing in labor.

On the left tunnel branch, engineers and workers of Cienco 4 Group Corporation and Hoa Hiep Company Limited are urgently digging the last meters of tunnel.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Executive Director of the XL-03 package of the contractor Cienco4 Group Joint Stock Company, said: Up to now, the group has dug more than 458/556.4m of the left tunnel branch, at the north gate.

“Since the construction began, the unit has been working in 3 shifts, 4 crews day and night. Currently, there are more than 40 officers, engineers, workers and many modern machines urgently constructing the remaining 98m of tunnel. It is expected that by November 15, the final point will be reached, adjacent to the part constructed by Hoa Hiep Company Limited from the southern tunnel entrance.

Meanwhile, the right tunnel branch has been dug by Hoa Hiep Company at Km 441+443.26. Currently, engineers and workers of this company are lowering the foundation and reinforcing the walls to prepare for concrete construction of the tunnel lining.

Workers are installing drainage pipes, geotextiles and waterproofing membranes before constructing the tunnel lining concrete.

Engineer Vo Son Hai, commander of the northern tunnel gate of Hoa Hiep Company Limited, informed: The tunnel branch must be 1,131m long. After completing the construction work, it will be 13.8m wide, 7.55m high and have 4 expansion points for safety work during future operations.

Since receiving the site and starting construction, Hoa Hiep Company has not stopped working for a single hour. Up to now, the north side has dug 748m, the south side has dug 363m and the two sides are connected.

According to Mr. Hai, during the construction process, due to the geological differences compared to the original design, especially in the south of the tunnel, the construction progress in the south was slowed down.

Faced with that difficulty, the northern tunnel accelerated and exceeded the schedule by 2 months, compensating for the southern tunnel to keep up with the tunnel opening schedule as planned and registered with the Ministry of Transport .

In other bid packages, companies: Dai Hiep, Thai Yen, Truong Son, VINA 2... are also mobilizing maximum human resources, vehicles, and machinery to speed up construction progress.

By the end of September 2023, contractors had mobilized 99 construction teams with 836 machines and equipment, and 1,920 workers. Cumulative output reached 4,674.5/5,055.6 billion VND, reaching 54.4% of the contract. The project enterprise also disbursed 4,331.57 billion VND for the project.

Tunnel formwork is also ready for concrete pouring of tunnel lining.

The Dien Chau - Bai Vot section of the project has a total length of 49.3km, passing through 2 provinces: Nghe An (44.4km), Ha Tinh (4.9km), with a total investment of 11,157 billion VND; construction started on May 22, 2021, and is expected to be completed on May 22, 2024.

The project is implemented in the form of PPP, by a consortium of investors: Hoa Hiep Company Limited - CIENCO4 Group Joint Stock Company - Nui Hong Investment Company Limited - Truong Son Construction Corporation - VINA2 Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company; the project enterprise is Phuc Thanh Hung Investment Joint Stock Company.

The Than Vu tunnel located on Than Vu mountain, connecting Dien Phu commune (Dien Chau district, Nghe An ) and Nghi Dong commune (Nghi Loc district, Nghe An) is an important project on the route. The right tunnel branch is 1,131m long, constructed by Hoa Hiep Company Limited; the left tunnel branch is 1,087m long, constructed by 2 contractors: Hoa Hiep Company Limited and Cienco 4 Group Joint Stock Company.
