'Super ornamental grapefruit' ancient tree for Tet, customer offered more than half a billion VND but owner did not sell

This year's Tet season, the ornamental grapefruit market has many valuable ancient grapefruit trees. In the ornamental grapefruit capital of Hung Yen , there are trees valued at up to 800 million VND. In recent years, the hobby of growing ornamental grapefruit during Tet has become increasingly popular. In the ornamental grapefruit capital of Hung Yen, the garden of Mr. Hoang Dinh Chinh's family (residing in Van Giang district, Hung Yen) has hundreds of large and small ornamental grapefruit trees, with a total estimated value of nearly 30 billion VND. Of which, the tree with the highest value of up to 800 million VND, was named "Family Warmth" by Mr. Chinh.

The grapefruit tree "Family Roof" is over 100 years old, 5m high and 6m wide.

The grapefruit tree impresses with its straight shape and natural branches stretching out like a sheltering roof.

According to the owner, this is the only tree in the garden that has more than 600 bright yellow ripe grapefruits. He bought this grapefruit tree 3 years ago and then rented it out every year at a high price.

Mr. Chinh shared that although someone offered nearly 600 million for the grapefruit tree, he has not agreed to sell it and is expecting a more worthy price.

Another unique grapefruit tree in Mr. Chinh’s garden is called “Homeland Roots”, which he valued at 650 million VND. The tree has a village shape and a wide canopy, evoking the image of an ancient banyan tree protecting the village.

“This grapefruit tree is over 100 years old. The tree is 4m tall and has a canopy of nearly 4m. Notably, the tree bears over 200 naturally ripened grapefruits, without any grafting. The tree was grown in the garden for 3 years, then transferred to a pot and cared for for another 2 years before bearing fruit,” said Mr. Chinh.

Mr. Chinh said that taking care of ornamental plants - especially fruit trees - requires meticulousness and patience, because catching fruit is very difficult, depending entirely on the weather. The more sunshine, the higher the fruit set rate. An equally important factor is to take care of the tree to be healthy, the flowers will be big, thanks to which the fruit will be large, even, and shiny.

The miniature landscape under the grapefruit tree evokes the simple and peaceful beauty of the countryside.

The pomelo bonsai "Throne" is expected to be sold by the gardener for 500 million VND. Mr. Nguyen Hoang, a long-time pomelo bonsai player, commented: "A beautiful pomelo bonsai is a tree with an old, large, and short trunk. The canopy must also be large, the fruit must be golden and ripe, and the green leaves must be eye-catching."

In addition to the grapefruit trees worth hundreds of millions, Mr. Chinh's family garden also has many other unique tree shapes such as the straight shape, the three-deity shape, the five-blessing shape, the mysterious shape, the tea table shape, etc. These tree shapes are not only beautiful but also have good feng shui meanings, attracting bonsai lovers from all over to choose and buy them to display on the 2025 Lunar New Year.
