Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, General Director of SSIT Port, said that SSIT highly appreciates the trust of MSC shipping line in choosing SSIT as a port of call for large-sized ships. This event not only promotes national logistics capacity but also contributes to strengthening Vietnam-US trade relations.
MSC's launch of a direct service route to the US via SSIT comes amid a sharp increase in exports to the US market. According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam's export turnover to the US in the first four months of 2025 is estimated at 43.4 billion USD, continuing to maintain its position as Vietnam's largest export market. In particular, the US's suspension of reciprocal tariffs for 90 days has created favorable conditions for export activities.
To meet this increasing demand, SSIT and other ports in the region are urgently improving their infrastructure, equipment and human resources, and working with relevant ministries and sectors to facilitate the safe docking of larger vessels (up to 250,000 tonnes, according to the plan), reducing costs per container for shipping lines.
