Sinner and Alcaraz return to the Cincinnati Open.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - After missing the Canadian Open, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will return to compete at the Cincinnati Open 2025. If they perform well, the two players will face each other in the championship match.

Alexander Zverev - Karen Khachanov (6:00 a.m., August 7)

Taylor Fritz - Ben Shelton (9 a.m., August 7)

The draw for the men's singles at the Cincinnati Open has been officially announced, marking the return of two top stars, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, after their absence since the dramatic Wimbledon final.

Neither world number one Sinner nor world number two Alcaraz have competed since Sinner's four-set victory over Alcaraz at Wimbledon last month, when both withdrew from the Canadian Open.

Italian player Sinner will arrive in Cincinnati as the defending champion, having defeated Frances Tiafoe in last year's final. The top seed is considered to have a more favorable draw compared to her opponent Alcaraz.

Like the other 32 seeded players, Sinner received a bye in the first round and will begin his campaign in the second round against a qualifier or Vit Kopriva. The four-time Grand Slam champion is expected to face 30th seed Gabriel Diallo in the third round, before potentially encountering 13th seed Tommy Paul in the fourth round, who has been struggling with injury since Roland Garros.

If Sinner reaches the semi-finals, he is expected to face compatriot and eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti, a player who has also struggled to regain his form in recent months. Musetti has won only one match since withdrawing due to injury in the fourth round of Roland Garros in June. Before this hypothetical clash with Sinner, Musetti could also face 25th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and 11th seed Casper Ruud, two players who have also struggled this summer.

Also in the top half of the rankings is the 4th seed and world number 4 Taylor Fritz, Sinner's predicted opponent in the semi-finals. Fritz could face 2022 Cincinnati champion Borna Coric in the second round, and then 31st seed Lorenzo Sonego in the third round. The American could then face even more danger in the fourth round, as 15th seed Flavio Cobolli, 17th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Joao Fonseca are all potential opponents.

If Fritz advances to the quarterfinals, he could face either the 10th seed Tiafoe or the 7th seed Holger Rune. 2024 runner-up Tiafoe and Rune competed in a dramatic three-set semifinal 12 months ago, although they could meet as early as the fourth round in two weeks.

The bottom half of the group will feature second seed Alcaraz, who is seeking his first Cincinnati Open title. The Spaniard missed out on a championship point in the epic 2023 final against Novak Djokovic, before suffering a shock second-round defeat to Gael Monfils in 2024.

Alcaraz's 2025 campaign will open with a match against either Mattia Bellucci or Damir Dzumhur, before potentially facing 26th seed Tallon Griekspoor in the third round. However, the Spaniard could then face a tough encounter in the fourth round against 16th seed and Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik, before potentially reaching the quarterfinals against 6th seed Alex de Minaur.
