The race for theatrical releases in October is heating up.

The October movie release race is heating up with a diverse range of films from both domestic and international sources. Among them, two Vietnamese films released in October are receiving high expectations from Vietnamese audiences.

Movie Overwhelming foreign occupation

In October, Vietnamese audiences will be able to enjoy highly anticipated Hollywood blockbusters, including "Joker: Folie à deux" and "Venom: The Last Dance." "Joker: Folie à deux," released on October 4th, marks the return of Joker after 5 years and is one of the most anticipated films globally. "Joker: Folie à deux" stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, continuing to take viewers on a journey through the complex and deranged psychology of Arthur Fleck. At the Venice Film Festival in September 2024, "Joker: Folie à deux" received an 11-minute standing ovation from the audience.

The next blockbuster to mention is "Venom: The Last Dance," starring Tom Hardy. This action-packed science fiction film will officially be released to Vietnamese audiences on October 25th. Directed by Kelly Marcel, the film continues the events of the previous installment and tells the story of Eddie Brock (played by Tom Hardy) and the parasitic creature Venom as they face new challenges.

The famous animated film about Japan during World War II, "Grave of the Fireflies," directed by Isao Takahata, also premiered in Vietnam on October 4th. "Grave of the Fireflies" is known as a masterpiece of animation and a renowned work of Studio Ghibli. Released in 1988, it continues to win the hearts of critics and audiences worldwide , including many Vietnamese viewers. On the film review website Rotten Tomatoes, "Grave of the Fireflies" received a perfect 100% rating from 46 international film critics.

Another action film from South Korea that has received a lot of attention is "The Unknown Boss." Directed by Lim Seong Yong, the film tells the story of a newly emerging gang leader named Kwon Sang Gon (played by Chun Jung Myung). He thought he would live a peaceful life, but the underworld forces Sang Gon into a dangerous game whose outcome he cannot foresee.

In the horror genre, one cannot ignore "The Organ Eater 2," a Thai horror film that achieved the highest box office revenue in Vietnam. "The Organ Eater 2" continues the story from the first film, following the demon-hunting journey of the eldest brother, Yak (played by Nadech Kugimiya). Three years after the death of his sister Yam, Yak continues his relentless pursuit of the mysterious dark spirit that killed her. The film officially premiered on October 18th and is one of the most anticipated blockbusters.

In addition, a series of foreign films also hit theaters in October, offering Vietnamese audiences a variety of genres such as: the animated film "The Wild Robot"; "Miracle in the Winter Night" (a romance and healing film); "Trick and Treat" (a romance and comedy film); and "Blink Twice" (a psychological thriller).

Vietnamese films are very promising.

In October, the Vietnamese film market sees the return of director Vu Ngoc Dang with "The Rich Bride," scheduled to be released on October 18th. The film features many popular names such as Thu Trang, Kieu Minh Tuan, Uyen An, and People's Artist Hong Van...

The film's plot revolves around Tu Lac (played by Uyen An), who, wanting to marry Bao Hoang (played by Samuel An) – the CEO of a medical corporation – disguises herself and her family as a wealthy and educated family. However, the truth is that Tu Lac's family only makes a living by making paper offerings for funerals and doing housework. Social issues and the class divide between rich and poor are promised to be portrayed through humorous and satirical situations.

Sharing her thoughts on her role in "The Rich Bride," actress Uyển Ân said that it was a challenging role and she tried her best to portray it.

Alongside "The Rich Bride," the action film "Domino: The Last Escape" has released an exciting trailer. Directed by Nguyen Phuc Huy Cuong, the film tells the story of a power struggle in the underworld. Starring Thuan Nguyen (as An), the film features dramatic and suspenseful plot twists. "Domino: The Last Escape," set to be released on October 11th, will be in direct competition with "The Rich Bride," promising an interesting rivalry between the two Vietnamese films.

The film is inspired by the famous Vietnamese fairy tale "Tam Cam". However, the film does not strictly follow the original story but largely innovates the plot.
