On June 12, Air Defender 2023 - the largest air exercise in the history of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) - began at Wunstorf Air Base, near Hannover, Germany. The exercise is expected to last until June 23, with the participation of forces from 25 countries, of which Germany is the main exercise location and takes command. A total of 10,000 soldiers and 250 aircraft will participate in the exercise, of which the US will contribute about 100 aircraft and Germany 70 aircraft. The exercise aims to train how to quickly transfer reinforced air forces to Germany in the event of a conflict, recapture occupied areas, and train defense and mutual support in the event of an armed attack on one or more NATO members. On June 12, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) began a trial run of the system to discharge treated radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant into the sea. On June 12, Australian police were urgently investigating a serious bus accident that occurred the night before in the town of Greta, Hunter region of New South Wales (NSW), in the southeast of the country. The accident killed at least 10 people, while the number of injured people reached 25.
