I say this because at the end of 2022, Ho Chi Minh City was only in the top 10 of the rankings and not in the top position. That result raised many questions and concerns for a city with a long tradition of being a leader, initiating many activities and movements that have become part of the nationwide youth movement.
In fact, there's no need to wait for or be reminded by the head of the Youth Union organization. Every Youth Union official and every Youth Union member in Ho Chi Minh City already demands high standards from themselves in every activity.
Being satisfied but not complacent has almost become a form of self-reflection, a reminder for each official and Youth Union branch after each program and activity held in this city.
This becomes an even clearer reminder when the nationwide youth activities in 2024 are themed "Year of Youth Volunteers".
It was activities in Ho Chi Minh City, and nowhere else, that gave birth to a new method of youth activity – the volunteer movement. Through practical experience, this movement has been refined, expanded, and arguably has become the most powerful and influential movement, mobilizing the largest number of young people and leaving the most significant social impact to date.
The high demands placed on volunteer activities in the context of current social trends and needs, linked to the theme of the year, pose a significant challenge to the place where it originated. Reinventing oneself and adapting to the lifestyles of young people is certainly a legitimate demand, but it's a difficult problem to solve!
It is essential to ensure that every program and activity of the Youth Union or youth movement in Ho Chi Minh City is not initiated or carried out solely to gain the admiration of any other unit or province. This is a self-imposed requirement and also a responsibility of the leading unit to better support areas that are still facing difficulties.
That requirement was put into action right in the days leading up to the new year 2024, not waiting until the return to work after the Lunar New Year holiday. And the immediate priority will be preparing to launch Youth Month, which is just a few days away, in the spirit of the "Year of Youth Volunteerism".
