At 3:30 PM this afternoon (March 1st), the opening ceremony of the 3rd Vietnam Youth and Student Football Championship - 2025 THACO Cup (TNSV THACO Cup 2025) will take place at the Ton Duc Thang University Stadium (District 7, Ho Chi Minh City).
Twelve outstanding representatives from six regions across the country are ready to deliver top-notch, spectacular, and authentic student football matches. These teams are: Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports, Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports, Hue University, Quy Nhon University, Dong Nai University of Technology, Tra Vinh University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Van Hien University, and the host team, Ton Duc Thang University.
Following the conclusion of the Vietnamese Youth and Student Football Tournament, Thanh Nien Newspaper will continue to organize the International Youth and Student Football Tournament from March 22nd to March 30th, also at the Ton Duc Thang University Stadium.
The Ton Duc Thang University Stadium is the venue for the final matches of this exciting tournament for students.
Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan - Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Vietnamese Youth and Student Football Tournament and the International Youth and Student Football Tournament - had a discussion with the General Director of Vietnam Television (VTV), Nguyen Thanh Lam, about VTV's broadcasting channel for the two tournaments organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper. The top leader of VTV emphasized that VTV will closely cooperate with Thanh Nien Newspaper in both of these exciting tournaments.
The Director of Vietnam Television Center in Ho Chi Minh City (VTV9), Tu Luong, also affirmed that, following the direction of VTV General Director Nguyen Thanh Lam, VTV9 is committed to providing full support to ensure that the positive images of the two tournaments are widely disseminated, serving fans nationwide. Accordingly, VTV9 will broadcast live the events and four matches of the two tournaments.
This includes the opening ceremony, opening match, final match, and awards ceremony of the Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament; and the opening ceremony, opening match, final match, and awards ceremony of the International Youth and Student Football Tournament.
The support of VTV and other television stations not only helps elevate the tournament but also creates momentum to promote the development of student football more strongly. On the afternoon of March 1st, following the opening ceremony of the 3rd Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup, the opening match took place between the home team Ton Duc Thang University and Tra Vinh University in Group A.
This is considered a difficult match to predict, as Ton Duc Thang University has both the home advantage and a tradition of reaching the top 4 twice in previous tournaments. Meanwhile, the representative from the West, Tra Vinh University, has also demonstrated superior strength by winning the only qualifying spot from this region for the finals twice in a row. Last season, they also reached the quarterfinals.

The 3rd Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament - 2025 - THACO Cup has seen many surprises from the qualifying rounds and promises to be equally unpredictable in the finals. For the first time, both the defending champion and the defending runner-up were eliminated in the qualifying rounds. Only 5 out of the 12 teams that participated in the finals last season are returning to compete.
This year's tournament features several notable newcomers, including Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism – the team that eliminated the defending runner-up, Thuy Loi University. Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – VNU-HCM also makes its first appearance in the finals, along with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry. In particular, the return of former champion Hue University promises to make this year's competition even more dramatic from the very first rounds. The champion and the reinforced host team (Ton Duc Thang University) will represent Vietnam at the 2025 International Youth and Student Football Tournament, taking place from March 22nd to 30th, 2025.
All the football teams have arrived in Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the competition.

Sharing his thoughts with representatives of the 12 outstanding teams participating in the finals, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan - Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper and Head of the Organizing Committee of the tournament - said: "We hope and expect you to continue to demonstrate the spirit of the tournament: Play beautifully - Win beautifully - Cheer beautifully. Let me make it clear that we will not tolerate any fraudulent behavior, violations of the tournament regulations in player registration, violent behavior, uncivilized and unsportsmanlike conduct in competition and cheering. Any team that violates these rules will be dealt with decisively and immediately."

Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan said that for this third season, the organizers continue to listen to feedback to improve the finals. Despite increased costs, the teams still receive support from the organizers, from transportation provided by Vietnam Airlines to accommodation within the Saigontourist Group. "The organizers have also made great efforts to create the best conditions for the teams, maintaining the spirit of 'Playing Fair - Winning Fair - Cheering Fair'."
