Bringing science to the fields

The dynamic economic development, the active application of science and technology in production, and the effective mobilization of resources for building new rural areas have brought new vitality to An Khanh commune. This includes well-maintained concrete roads, fields where farmers are proactive in production, and improved material and spiritual lives for the people, with an average income of nearly 56 million VND per person per year and a poverty rate reduced to 1.6%.

An Khánh commune has 38 hamlets with over 20,000 inhabitants. The people's income mainly depends on agricultural production and services. In recent years, the local government and people have made many efforts in leading and guiding the people to develop socio-economic activities in a sustainable direction. This is clearly demonstrated through the agricultural and rural development policies and the new rural development program implemented in the locality.

One of the highlights in An Khanh's development process is the focus on applying science and technology to agricultural production. For many years, the commune has actively implemented science and technology transfer programs, encouraging farmers to apply them to the production and processing of key products such as tea, rice, and livestock.

Many households in An Khanh commune have switched from raising fish fry to raising apple snails, achieving a total income of nearly 1 billion VND/hectare/year.

Food production is given top priority. By 2025, the entire commune aims to achieve a grain production of 7,190 tons, including 6,645 tons of rice and 545 tons of corn. The average food production per person per year is 360 kg. Local food security is ensured, allowing people to focus on and expand tea cultivation. To date, the commune has over 253 hectares of tea plantations, with a fresh tea leaf yield of 3,120 tons per year.

Science and technology, and new crop varieties are highly valued by farmers and applied to production on their family land. When fields like Suoi Cat, Dong Buc, and Dong Sam were introduced to high-quality new rice varieties such as JO2 and Dai Thom, tea plantations on the hillsides were improved and cared for according to VietGAP safety standards. As a result, the economic value of tea cultivation has steadily increased, making a significant contribution to raising people's income.

In An Khanh commune, mechanization in agricultural production has been promoted. Many stages in rice production, such as land preparation, sowing, and harvesting, have been carried out using machinery, saving time and reducing labor for farmers. Meanwhile, tea-producing households have invested in drying machines, rolling machines, and vacuum packaging machines.

Thanks to the right direction from the local government and the efforts of the people, the agricultural structure of the commune continues to shift in a positive direction, increasing production value. Policies encouraging production have been effectively implemented, creating conditions to attract economic entities to invest and promoting linkages between businesses, cooperatives, and people in the production, processing, and consumption of agricultural products.

A bright spot in rural road construction.

The collective economy has also been gradually strengthened and developed. In recent times, the commune has supported the establishment of 3 new cooperatives and 3 tea production groups according to VietGAP standards. These new economic models in the locality help people link production more effectively, while also creating conditions for building product brands and enhancing competitiveness in the market.

Along with food crops and tea plants, An Khanh commune always prioritizes the development of livestock farming in a biosecure manner. The local government has implemented many solutions to support people in developing their livestock and poultry herds, such as providing vaccines, guiding safe farming techniques, and orienting production towards concentrated commercial production. Currently, households are raising nearly 600 buffaloes and cows; over 5,000 pigs; and more than 175,000 poultry.

Thanks to proactive disease prevention and control, the livestock population of local people has remained stable, with no outbreaks of dangerous diseases. In 2025, veterinary officers, in coordination with livestock farmers, administered over 4,800 doses of vaccines against swine fever, hemorrhagic septicemia, and foot-and-mouth disease to pigs; nearly 1,000 doses against foot-and-mouth disease to cattle and buffaloes; and over 13,000 doses against avian influenza. They also carried out sanitation and disease prevention measures, spraying over 268 liters of disinfectant chemicals.

With a stable economic life, people have better conditions to participate in patriotic emulation movements in their localities. A prime example is the new rural development program, where villagers actively responded to the "Expanding village roads to 6 meters" movement.

During the period 2023-2025, An Khanh commune became a shining example in the province for new rural road construction. The people of the commune donated nearly 45,000 square meters of land and many assets on the land, with a total value of over 5.7 billion VND. In 2025 alone, the people donated 390 square meters of land, worth nearly 408 million VND, and contributed over 7,200 days of labor to expand village roads to "meet the standard 6m".

Through our research, we learned that: During the period 2020-2025, Anh Khanh commune achieved a total investment of nearly 177 billion VND in infrastructure construction. Thanks to this, many essential projects serving production and the lives of the people have been built, contributing to the promotion of socio-economic development in the locality.

Because of this, the villages seem larger thanks to the improved transportation infrastructure. The internal field roads are also more solid, allowing vehicles to transport fertilizer from homes to the fields and agricultural products from the fields back home. The appearance of An Khánh commune's rural areas has changed significantly, boosting people's spirits and fostering continued consensus on building an advanced new rural community.
