Having fun on Tan Hoi beach

Peaceful afternoon in Tan Hoi

Heading north along National Highway 49B, it takes about an hour by motorbike to reach Tan Hoi Beach, located in Dien Loc commune, Phong Dien district. It's considered the most beautiful beach in the entire Ngu Dien area. The sea here is tranquil, with a long stretch of pristine white sand and rows of casuarina trees extending as far as the eye can see. The best thing about Tan Hoi is easily finding a private space. I have a habit of lying stretched out on the beach, letting the waves caress me whenever I'm at the beach. I was drawn to a group of children swimming nearby. A little girl shouted with joy after catching a crab. Seeing her success, her friends rushed in hoping to catch one too. Seeing the children playing happily reminded me of my own childhood, when my parents often took me to the beach, so I jumped in too: "Let me catch one too!"

Although Tan Hoi beach has been around for over ten years, its landscape and ecosystem remain unspoiled. That's why, as explained by the Tan Hoi Beach Management Board, there's still an abundance of seafood near the shore. Around the fifth lunar month, crabs come right to the shore to lay eggs, so they can be caught right there. To get a tasty catch, many young men from the coastal area simply cast a net about 50 meters from the shore and pull it in – a fun afternoon awaits. Invited to join a group of young men from Tan Hoi, after a while of chatting, one of them suggested: "Stay here tonight and sleep 'barely' with us to experience it." I'd heard of sleeping "barely," but never tried it. The young man explained, "It's simple, sir. You just need a tarp, a mat to spread underneath, and something to rest your head on, and you can sleep."

The topic of conversation immediately shifted when, not far away, another group of young men were playing football on the beach. The young man who had invited me to stay overnight continued his "promotion," saying that during summer vacation, the young men in the village would play football every afternoon. Playing on the sand was tiring, but it was great for physical fitness. "Thanks to that, the young men of Tan Hoi village are very strong. If you were to compete in a long-distance race, the young men here could give you a head start of half the distance," the young man said, challenging me. "How could I possibly compete with the young men from the coastal area?" I replied.

As evening approached, more and more visitors flocked to Tan Hoi. Mr. Le Van Thang, Chairman of the Dien Loc Commune People's Committee, said that many visitors had become aware of Tan Hoi. Compared to previous years, the number of visitors at the beginning of the season has shown positive changes. However, besides local visitors, the majority are from Phong Dien town and a neighboring commune across the O Lau River.

Goodbye, and I'll be back.

As shared by the owner of Binh Minh restaurant, you can find all kinds of fresh seafood here. Many tourists who go swimming and catch crabs, shellfish, etc., come here to have us prepare and enjoy the dishes, which have a distinct Tan Hoi flavor.

While not comparable to Thuan An, Canh Duong, or Lang Co, Tan Hoi possesses its own unique strengths. With its wide, flat, and relatively unspoiled beach, Tan Hoi is more than capable of accommodating large groups for team-building activities, overnight camping, or sports . Mr. Tran Quang Hao, Director of Huetourist, noted that Tan Hoi is relatively new, and its beautiful scenery is a major advantage. He emphasized the need to strengthen promotion of Tan Hoi, focusing on its scenic beauty and wide, long, and beautiful beach. Distance will not be a barrier, as tourists tend to choose destinations that are both beautiful and unique.

We said goodbye to Tan Hoi as darkness fell, and somewhere near the shore, the local fishermen's boats began their nighttime voyages. Although we were reluctant to leave, we had to return to the city and our daily routines. Nevertheless, we will return as soon as possible and introduce more friends to Tan Hoi so we can all find peace and tranquility there.

The People's Committee of Phong Dien district is developing a plan to build a tourist tour along the O Lau River; in which Tan Hoi beach will be the tour's final destination. Once included in the tour route, the potential for promoting Tan Hoi beach is expected to increase, attracting more tourists. At the same time, more businesses will be encouraged to invest, adding more food, entertainment, and recreational services to Tan Hoi.
