Tam Dao develops a multi-sector economy.

Following the merger, the Party Committee and government of Tam Dao commune have focused on promoting economic restructuring, prioritizing the development of industry and handicrafts, and especially emphasizing the development of tourism and high-tech agriculture to increase value and improve people's income. The commune is concentrating its resources on maximizing its potential and advantages to develop a multi-sector economy.

Leveraging advantages and boosting economic development.

Tam Dao commune has a total natural area of ​​approximately 79.2 ^km² and a population of nearly 35,000 people, of which 32.7% are ethnic minorities (mainly the San Diu ethnic group). Understanding the local advantages and disadvantages, over the years, the Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of the commune have consistently focused on promptly disseminating new policies and guidelines of the Party and State on socio-economic development to cadres, Party members, and the people. The Party Committee has issued a specialized resolution on economic development, focusing on maximizing the advantages of the Tam Dao mountain tourist area and traditional vegetable and fruit farming villages, linked with the development of trade and services.

Locals in Ha village are growing a new variety of chili peppers, bringing in an income of 40-50 million VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters) per year.

Currently, the commune has 160 businesses, 18 cooperatives, and nearly 1,500 households registered for production and business activities, mainly concentrated in the Tam Dao mountain area and the commune center in the former Hop Chau area. In the tourism sector alone, the commune has 138 accommodation establishments with nearly 2,500 rooms. The trade and service sector has provided employment for over 3,000 local workers with incomes ranging from 8 to 12 million VND per person per month.

In 2025, the total production value of Tam Dao commune reached 5,427 billion VND, an 8% increase compared to the same period. Of this, industrial and construction production reached 2,897 billion VND, accounting for 53.3%; trade and services reached 1,865 billion VND, accounting for 34.36%; and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries reached 666 billion VND, accounting for 12%. The commune created nearly 1,100 new jobs.

Agricultural and aquatic production remains the mainstay of the commune's efforts to ensure food security and social welfare. Therefore, the commune's Party committee and government have focused on leading and directing the restructuring of crop patterns, shifting from small-scale farming practices to concentrated, commercial production, and applying scientific and technological advancements. To date, 100% of the cultivated area is planted with high-yield hybrid rice varieties; some areas have switched to suitable crops, forming specialized zones for vegetables, chayote, medicinal herbs, and ginseng, with an average value of 150-160 million VND/ha.

Growing chayote in Ha village brings in 2-3 times more value than growing rice for the local people.

In addition, the commune encourages people to develop livestock farming on both farm and household scales. To date, the commune's livestock sector has developed towards large-scale, concentrated commodity production. Many households have invested billions of dong in barns and breeding stock. With economic development, people have the means to invest in infrastructure construction, contributing to the development of advanced new rural areas and model new rural villages. Planning and beautification of residential areas, construction of model roads, flower-lined roads, and green fences are given attention and implemented.

Development direction towards sustainable value creation.

According to Tran Duc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Dao commune: The merger to form the new Tam Dao commune opens up new economic development opportunities, especially in the Tam Dao tourist area - one of the 10 most attractive tourist destinations in the world - making tourism a key sector. The Resolution of the Commune Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term sets out 19 targets (with 3 additional targets added in 2026: attracting investment in 1 industrial cluster and 1 golf course, maintaining forest cover above 55%, and increasing tourism revenue by an average of 10% per year); achieving GRDP growth of 8-10% per year, and becoming a commune meeting the standards of advanced new rural development by 2030.

To achieve the above goals, in addition to tourism, the commune focuses on developing industry, construction, and small-scale handicrafts in a sustainable manner, suitable to its conditions. It encourages and creates a favorable investment environment for organizations and individuals to participate in investment, joint ventures, and production linkages; expanding the scale and organizational forms of small-scale handicraft production facilities, households, and private enterprises. It strengthens the application of technology and improves product designs to enhance productivity, quality, competitiveness, and sales.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, from Dong Sinh village, grows Ha Den grapes intercropped with water spinach under the vines to serve experiential tourism, creating jobs for 5 laborers and generating an income of 150-160 million VND/hectare.

In addition, the commune continues to promote tourism development, focusing on developing high-tech agriculture; replicating effective production and business models; planning concentrated agricultural production areas and fruit-growing areas along with specialty crops and medicinal plants. It strengthens connections and cooperation with businesses to attract investment; and focuses on expanding product markets. It concentrates on investing in modern infrastructure, especially transportation, schools, irrigation, and digital infrastructure; and building a green, clean, and beautiful living environment.
