According to Defensa Central , Mourinho has urged Real Madrid officials to push ahead with the signing of Rodri from Manchester City. The Spanish midfielder is seen as a priority target for the 63-year-old manager to upgrade the midfield.
Rodri has just gone through a difficult season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury and has not fully regained his best physical condition. However, the class of the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner is still highly regarded when in peak physical condition. Notably, the Spanish international has admitted his desire to return to his homeland to play in the future.
The fee for Rodri is reportedly around 30 million euros, a figure considered quite achievable for Real Madrid if the deal is truly pursued this summer.
On Manchester City's side, manager Pep Guardiola affirmed that he would not stand in the way of his player if Rodri wanted to move to Bernabeu. However, the Spanish strategist also emphasized that the Etihad Stadium club still wants to keep the 29-year-old midfielder long-term and is planning to extend his contract.
Following a disappointing season in which Real Madrid ended up empty-handed in all competitions and internal conflicts arose within the dressing room, the club's management wants to implement a major overhaul.
Jorge Valdano, former CEO of Real Madrid, believes Mourinho needs at least five new signings to improve the club's performance, including four defenders and one central midfielder.
