Mrs. Chinh sweeps around.
Ms. Chinh's involvement in cleaning and maintaining graves began by chance. She recounted, "In 2009, my family was in a very difficult situation. We had no land for farming, our children were still in school, my husband and I lacked capital, and our jobs were unstable. At that time, our house was right next to the cemetery fence, and seeing that there was plenty of empty land nearby, I asked permission to plant flowers to sell and earn extra income. Seeing that I frequently visited the cemetery, some families whose loved ones were buried there but lived far away and couldn't visit regularly asked me to take care of the graves and light incense for them daily."
For over 15 years, Mrs. Chinh has been dedicated to cleaning and maintaining the graves. Families from far away who visit the graves of their loved ones are delighted and moved to see the clean and welcoming surroundings. When she first started this work, her family objected. However, after much explanation, they were gradually convinced and came to understand the meaningfulness of this work.
Mrs. Chinh carefully cleaned up.
Every day, around 6 a.m., she arrives at the cemetery, meticulously cleaning the altars and incense burners, sometimes weeding and sweeping leaves around the graves. She also takes the time to water and care for the potted plants.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Chinh shared: "Perhaps because relatives are busy with making a living or live far away, some graves are rarely visited. I try to clean and tidy the graves, buy flowers, and light incense to make this place feel warm and welcoming."
Mrs. Chinh lit incense at the grave.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dang (69 years old), residing in Binh Long hamlet, Chau Thanh commune, said: "My house is not far from the cemetery, so I often visit. Every time I come, I see that every grave is clean, with incense and flowers readily available. I am deeply touched by Ms. Tu's kindness."
Day after day, Mrs. Chinh diligently visits each grave to clean it with heartfelt reverence. After a day of cleaning and caring for the graves, she finds joy and peace of mind.
