The Mekong Delta is the largest agricultural production and export region in the country, but is also the most heavily impacted by climate change, extreme weather and saltwater intrusion. Provinces such as Tay Ninh, Dong Thap and Vinh Long are clearly affected, not only in agricultural production but also in people's lives and activities.
Ms. Le Thi Van Hue - Deputy Director of CECAD said that the project "Strengthening communication capacity to respond to climate change in the Mekong Delta" is funded by the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam, implemented from 2020 to 2025. The project aims to improve the communication capacity of functional agencies, raise public awareness of saline intrusion, develop monitoring, warning and early forecasting systems; at the same time, support people to store water for daily life and production, contributing to ensuring water security.
At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing the journey of supporting localities to improve communication capacity, challenges caused by drought and salinity, climate change, as well as solutions and recommendations for adaptation in the coming time.
