Viettel synchronously deploys measures to maintain the network during and after storm No. 9

In response to the impact of storm Ragasa (storm No. 9), Viettel has deployed comprehensive response measures to protect the network and ensure stable service for customers.

On September 25, a representative of the Military Industry-Telecoms Group ( Viettel ) said that the unit has synchronously deployed measures to ensure the safety of telecommunications infrastructure in provinces affected by storm Ragasa (storm No. 9) and its circulation.

"Current information technology telecommunications infrastructure not only ensures communication, but also meets the needs of operations and essential services in the digital environment. Recognizing this importance, Viettel ensures that the network is resilient to natural disasters and is ready with recovery and rescue plans in provinces affected by storms," ​​said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dat - Deputy General Director of Viettel Group in charge of telecommunications operations.

On September 25, Ragasa storm is expected to enter the Gulf of Tonkin, make landfall in Quang Ninh with winds of level 8-9 (the center of the storm may reach level 10-11) and then weaken into a tropical depression and then a low pressure area in the Northwest. Although the storm weakens when it makes landfall, there is a risk of causing heavy rain in the North, from 100-250 mm, locally over 400 mm, with the risk of flooding and flash floods.

In response to this situation, Viettel has deployed comprehensive response measures to protect the network and ensure stable service for customers. In 7 coastal provinces directly affected, including Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh , Viettel has organized a review and inspection of BTS stations, prepared more than 2,000 generators and millions of kilometers of fiber optic cables, and reinforced all antenna poles, lowered the load, fixed the cable lines, upgraded the transmission source and added batteries at the stations to increase resilience in case of grid power outages.

This unit has also assessed provinces and areas likely to be affected by storm circulation, forecasting heavy rain to ensure on-site response plans in landslide, flood and isolation areas.

To support military units in carrying out information response and search and rescue work, Viettel has prepared satellite telephone systems, mobile broadcasting vehicles and special solutions such as drones to connect fiber optic cables across areas isolated by floods and landslides.

To date, more than 500 information response teams with over 1,200 personnel have been mobilized from all provinces/cities across the country, ready to support the provinces most severely affected by Ragasa storm. These teams are organized into specific specialized groups such as BTS stations, fixed broadband and electromechanical, ensuring quick and effective handling.

Over the past year, Viettel has strengthened its telecommunications network infrastructure, ensuring multiple backup connections for each region. Most of the cable lines are solid cables that can withstand the effects of natural disasters. The key stations in the transmission lines are guaranteed to operate without grid power for long periods of time.

Along with on-site solutions, a series of IT application systems have been deployed by Viettel. The information and rescue management system in natural disasters was built by Viettel engineers, helping to update network status in real time during storms, eliminating 100% of manual reporting.

With the application of AI, network status information is continuously updated, displayed clearly from the commander to the direct staff, helping to significantly reduce troubleshooting time, with an average service recovery time of 30% faster than before. Along with that, Viettel continues to use the ZDT, SON, XO system to automatically balance the load, reduce congestion, and automatically change the antenna tilt/up angle to optimize 4G coverage.

All these actions affirm Viettel's strong determination to maintain the network, ensure stable service quality, and bring peace of mind to millions of customers even in the midst of the storm./.
