PV: Many people and experts support demolishing the "Shark's Jaw" building because it presents an opportunity for systematic planning of the area surrounding Hoan Kiem Lake. Could you share more about this?

Mr. Trinh Hoang Tung: After the renovation is completed, it will create a public space that harmoniously connects with Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square and the pedestrian street, increasing green areas and limiting construction.

In the context of increasingly rapid urbanization, many major cities around the world have undertaken the restructuring of outdated buildings. These changes are sometimes necessary to create new public spaces, improve transportation, and enhance the quality of life. The demolition of the "Shark's Jaw" building aims to improve the landscape and beautify the living environment, especially in strategically important areas such as city centers connected to historical and cultural landmarks.

Here, research units are focused on developing new public spaces that align with more modern planning and are consistent with the preservation of the area's cultural and historical values. Along with the landscape, the heritage surrounding Ho Guom Lake must meet the criteria of enhancing spiritual life, serving economic , cultural, and social interests, and contributing to the development of the capital in the new era.

However, many people are concerned that when demolishing the "Shark's Jaw" and carrying out urban reconstruction, the relevant departments need a specific plan regarding the concept of the new building. How can it harmonize with the overall architecture of the old town while also avoiding commercialization?

- After demolition, to ensure that the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square area is not overly commercialized while still retaining public space for residents and tourists, some possible approaches include: Developing public spaces. Setting a goal to preserve the public function of this area. The District People's Committee will work with relevant agencies to specifically determine whether to allow the maintenance of open, airy spaces for residents and tourists.

This also involves controlling commercial activities. Strict regulations are being established for construction and business operations within the area. This includes limiting the number of shops and eateries, and controlling the size and area of businesses to ensure ample space remains for community activities.

And what about spaces for cultural and artistic activities, sir?

- Space for arts and culture will be enhanced. Organizing events, art performances, and exhibitions in the square will be encouraged. This will create a vibrant atmosphere and encourage people to participate in cultural activities.

Furthermore, designing green spaces is essential to improve the quality of life and create a beautiful, spacious environment for both residents and tourists. However, this decision will depend on specific planning and feedback from the community.

Thank you very much, sir!
