Global gold prices rose amid a weakening US dollar. At 6:45 PM on December 25th, the US Dollar Index, which measures the dollar's fluctuations against six major currencies, stood at 101.360 points (down 0.12%). Increasing expectations of a Fed easing monetary policy continued to weigh on the dollar as the US Dollar Index declined. Gareth Soloway, President of VerifyInvesting.com, predicted the index could fall below 100 points. A weaker US dollar will continue to support gold's upward trend as it increases the precious metal's attractiveness to buyers holding other currencies. A sharp drop in the USD will support gold prices. Gold prices this week are expected to be relatively quiet as no significant economic data is being released. However, SIA Wealth Management market strategist Colin Cieszynski believes that gold will continue to be favored as a safe haven due to concerns about increasing geopolitical instability.
