Accelerating preparations for mass distribution of E10 gasoline.

In early May, many petroleum businesses will begin distributing E10 RON95 gasoline nationwide. Thus, the market will have two types of bio-gasoline: E5 RON92 and E10 RON95.

Positive reception

Observations in many localities show that consumers are gradually embracing E10 in a positive way. “Since the pilot sale began in August 2025, I have regularly filled my 2019 Honda Lead with E10 gasoline, and the engine runs smoothly without any problems,” shared Ms. Luu Cam Anh, a resident of Ban Co Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. Many consumers also stated that they chose E10 gasoline because of its environmental friendliness, in the context of increasing concern over emission reduction.

In Hanoi , many ride-hailing drivers and daily commuters using E10 gasoline have reported stable vehicle performance with no significant difference compared to conventional gasoline. In the central region, gas stations report that E10 gasoline is gaining more attention, and people are gradually increasing their frequency of using this biofuel.

According to a survey of the domestic market, Dr. Dao Duy Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), stated that biofuels are gradually being accepted by consumers. Compared to other countries in the world, the use of biofuels in Vietnam is not yet as widespread, but so far no negative feedback has been recorded.

This is an important foundation for strengthening market confidence in the coming period and will bring more tangible environmental benefits. With each liter of gasoline emitting approximately 2.5 kg of CO2, reducing gasoline consumption by 1 million cubic meters out of a total consumption of about 12 million cubic meters per year could reduce emissions by up to 2.5 million tons of CO2. This figure significantly impacts consumer choices, especially in large cities already facing air pollution pressures.

Businesses are ready.

Major distributors such as Petrolimex and PVOIL (which account for approximately 70% of the domestic petroleum market share) are accelerating their efforts to roll out E10 gasoline across their entire systems by mid-May.

According to Mr. Luu Van Tuyen, General Director of Petrolimex, the group is ready in terms of infrastructure, supply, and implementation organization, and is proactively coordinating with units to ensure supply capacity for the entire market. Specifically, from April 25th, Petrolimex began large-scale blending of E10 gasoline at the K130 depot (Quang Ninh) for distribution throughout the system.

Currently, Petrolimex has 8 E10 gasoline blending facilities in key areas, with a total capacity of over 5 million m3, sufficient to meet initial demand and support other distributors. The Petrolimex Board of Directors has also authorized the deployment of high-quality products such as E10 RON95-V and research into fuels meeting Euro V and Euro VI standards.

Meanwhile, Mr. Le Trung Hung, Deputy General Director of PVOIL, said that the company has made full preparations, from raw materials, blending systems, storage tanks to distribution. The previously existing E5 gasoline blending infrastructure has been converted to E10 gasoline, and the tanks have been upgraded, along with the installation of additional blending systems, pipelines, and import/export equipment.

Regarding supply, PVOIL uses base gasoline from its Nghi Son and Dung Quat refineries, while also proactively securing domestic ethanol sources and importing from the US, Brazil, and other competitive markets. With this comprehensive preparation, the company affirms its ability to ensure a stable and continuous supply of E10 gasoline.

Simultaneously, thousands of gas stations in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and many other localities have trained staff to advise and guide customers on the proper use of E10 gasoline. Some businesses have also intensified communication at sales points, contributing to creating confidence for consumers.

Associate Professor Ngo Tri Long stated that, in the context of a volatile global energy market and pressure for a green transition, the deployment of E10 gasoline is not just a fuel change but also a process of building market trust. For a successful transition, several factors need to be implemented simultaneously: reasonable pricing, transparent technology, and smooth distribution.

When consumers clearly see the economic benefits, are confident about the quality, and have easy access to the product, the transition will proceed smoothly. If implemented well, E10 gasoline or higher-grade biofuels such as E15 and E20 could gradually become the new fuel standard, contributing to cost stability, expanding agricultural output, increasing energy self-sufficiency, and making a practical contribution to green growth goals.
