Accelerating construction of the Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway.

Construction on the Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway, with an investment of over 5,700 billion VND, began in mid-March 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2026. This is a high target, especially given the difficulties and obstacles related to land clearance and unfavorable weather conditions. However, as soon as the land clearance difficulties are gradually resolved, contractors begin to accelerate construction to achieve the set goals.

Immediately after resolving land-related issues for the Cho Moi – Bac Kan expressway project, contractors mobilized maximum machinery and personnel, and increased shifts to accelerate construction progress.
Contractors are mobilizing maximum machinery and manpower, and working overtime to accelerate the construction progress of the Cho Moi – Bac Kan expressway project, immediately after land acquisition issues are resolved.

Removing land-related bottlenecks

The Cho Moi – Bac Kan expressway project has a total length of approximately 28.8km, including a main route of 28.4km and an extension of 0.4km. The route is designed to expressway standards with 4 lanes and a speed limit of 80km/h.

The entire route includes 18 bridges, 4 interchanges, 30 pedestrian underpasses, along with a system of service roads and cross roads, ensuring seamless connection with the existing transportation network. The total investment for the project is over 5,750 billion VND, funded by the state budget and supplementary sources. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2025 and is expected to be substantially completed in 2026.

Initially, the project faced numerous difficulties due to slow land clearance, unresolved issues in some areas, and obstacles in relocating technical infrastructure (electricity, telecommunications). In addition, prolonged heavy rainfall also affected construction progress.

With the decisive direction of the Ministry of Construction , the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province, and the efforts of relevant units, major obstacles have been overcome. The locality is focusing on supporting people in harvesting crops to hand over the land; the contractor is mobilizing additional equipment and personnel, taking advantage of favorable weather to accelerate construction, prioritizing bridge, culvert, and underpass projects where land is already available.

Mobilize maximum manpower and construction equipment.

These days, the construction site is bustling with activity from early morning until late at night. Hundreds of engineers and workers are working in continuous shifts to meet deadlines.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Cuong, originally from Tuyen Quang province, currently a worker at Phuong Thanh Transportation Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company, said: "We usually start work from 6 to 11 a.m. and in the afternoon from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Despite the hot weather, everyone tries to speed up the progress."

Phuong Thanh Transportation Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company is one of the contractors involved from the beginning of the road construction project. They faced difficulties due to the fragmented terrain, complex geological conditions, and delays in land handover. However, the company always strived to overcome all obstacles to ensure the overall progress of the project.

Mr. Tran Ba Luan, the company's CEO, shared: "From the end of July, when more than 71% of the land was handed over, we mobilized maximum equipment and manpower, organized multiple construction teams, and worked extra night shifts to catch up on the progress, especially in areas where people had already harvested their crops and trees. Wherever land was available, we organized construction there."

According to the Regional Land Development Center Branch 6, as of August 15th, the project had handed over more than 24.5km of cleared land, with a total land area of 261.8ha. Of this, 174.8/261.8ha has been handed over to investors and contractors. Major bottlenecks have been largely resolved, creating favorable conditions for contractors to simultaneously implement multiple project components.

Mr. Mac Van Nghiep, Director of the Cho Moi - Bac Kan Expressway Project, said: "The unit is making maximum use of the available land, prioritizing the construction of items that are less affected by weather. Once the entire land is handed over, we will simultaneously open 16 construction fronts, striving to complete the project on schedule as directed by the Government."

The Cho Moi – Bac Kan expressway, once completed, will create momentum for socio-economic development in the region.
