DNVN - Sharing at the workshop "Pioneering dual transformation for a greener Vietnam" on November 12, businesses said that aiming for green growth has made a difference for businesses in the global market. Businesses can take advantage of digital technologies , understand each step in the supply chain to achieve green growth.
Green transformation is not only an inevitable path for Vietnam to achieve its net zero emissions target, but also a mandatory path that businesses must take if they want to achieve sustainable development goals and participate more deeply in global value chains.
Speaking at the workshop “Pioneering dual transformation for a greener Vietnam” on November 12, Ms. Le Minh Trang - Deputy Director of Retail Research Department of NielsenIQ Vietnam said that businesses committed to green production will meet more consumer demands. The transition to green production helps businesses reduce long-term costs by optimizing energy and raw materials, reducing waste, thereby improving profit margins.
Furthermore, businesses also benefit from enhancing their brand image, creating a competitive advantage in the market. Compliance with international and national environmental standards opens up many new export and business cooperation opportunities for businesses.
Switching to green manufacturing helps businesses reduce long-term costs by optimizing energy and raw material sources.
Mr. Craig Richard Bradshaw - General Director of Masan High-Tech Materials emphasized that Masan High-Tech Materials makes a difference in the global market thanks to its sustainable development strategy following the circular economy model. In which, it focuses on recycling, developing green products and aiming for green growth.
Specifically, the company applies the 3Rs model “Reduce – Reuse – Recycle” to all production and operation activities. At the same time, it constantly improves to aim at minimizing waste and optimizing resources.
Masan High-Tech Materials has developed high technology through two advanced research facilities in Germany and Vietnam. The company also cooperates with technology companies, universities and research institutes to improve the energy efficiency of the hard metal production process from ore, scrap to finished tools.
However, Vietnamese businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, still face difficulties in accessing the necessary technology to implement sustainable solutions. The application of sustainable production methods often requires large initial investments, increasing operating costs.
“In developing an effective sustainability strategy, SMEs need to carefully consider the investment costs and long-term benefits. They must understand every step in the supply chain to ensure that every process meets sustainability standards.
Businesses should not increase prices too high for sustainable products. Unreasonable price increases can make consumers lose interest in the product,” Mr. Craig Richard Bradshaw recommended.
Regarding the textile industry, Mr. Vang Vien Thong - CEO of the fashion brand from recycled materials REPEET said that instead of using polyester derived from petroleum, REPEET produces sustainable fashion products from recycled polyester fibers sourced in Vietnam. With a sustainable development strategy, REPEET is expanding to demanding markets such as Japan, the US and Europe - markets where product quality and sustainability criteria are top priorities.
“By using 10 tons of REPEET fabric, we have contributed to recycling nearly 1.45 million PET plastic bottles, reducing carbon emissions into the environment equivalent to a car running 57,000 km, while saving 70,000 liters of water,” Mr. Vang Vien Thong shared.
Participating in the discussion at the workshop, Mr. Alexander Evchenko - Director of 1C Vietnam Co., Ltd. said that dual transformation is a comprehensive process, in which digital transformation plays a role as a tool to promote green transformation. Therefore, businesses can take advantage of digital technologies to minimize environmental pollution.
Specifically, applying digital solutions to manage waste, reduce emissions and save energy. At the same time, optimize production processes, reduce waste and increase labor productivity.
At the workshop, representatives of many businesses also affirmed that green transformation brings many opportunities for businesses. Through green transformation, businesses not only increase the value of products and services but also gradually affirm their responsibility to the environment, the community and increase their reputation with partners and consumers.
Overcoming financial and technological barriers, green transformation is the trend chosen by businesses in their journey to sustainable development.
