The number of tourists traveling between Vietnam and Japan is continuously increasing.
On July 4th in Da Nang, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam organized a workshop and business networking event to promote Japanese tourism in 2025. The event brought together 22 tourism service providers from across Japan, including government agencies, hotels, and tour operators, and 26 travel companies from the central region of Vietnam.
The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) held a workshop and business networking event to promote tourism in Japan in 2025 in Da Nang on July 4th.
Conversely, in 2024, the number of tourists from Japan to Vietnam reached 166,500, a 2.5-fold increase compared to 2023. During Prime Minister Ishiba's visit to Vietnam in April 2025, both Japan and Vietnam demonstrated their determination to further promote tourism exchanges with the goal of reaching 2 million two-way tourists annually.
According to Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Japanese market has always been one of Da Nang's key international markets. In 2024, the city welcomed over 179,000 Japanese tourists; in the first six months of 2025 alone, the number reached over 108,000, nearly double the figure for the same period last year.
Following the resumption of the Narita – Da Nang route in March 2023, Vietnam Airlines recently resumed operations on the Osaka – Da Nang route on July 3rd. Currently, Da Nang connects with two major Japanese cities, Tokyo and Osaka, via 11 direct flights per week (7 flights from Narita and 4 flights from Osaka).
“The resumption of the Osaka-Da Nang flight route comes amidst the growing interest from Vietnamese tourists at the Osaka World Travel Exhibition (EXPO 2025). We hope this will boost two-way tourism between central Vietnam and Japan, further strengthening tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between the two countries,” said Ms. Matsumoto, Chief Representative of JNTO in Vietnam.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Tourism and Sports Department, delivered a speech at the workshop.
Mr. Mori Takero, Consul General of Japan in Da Nang, emphasized that after merging with Quang Nam province, the new city of Da Nang has acquired many rich tourism resources. Specifically, in addition to the World Heritage sites of Hoi An and My Son, there are also green tourism destinations such as Hoiana resort, Tra Ly lotus pond, community tourism sites such as pottery villages, and cafes amidst rice fields near Hoi An…
In the first six months of 2025, Da Nang City recorded an economic growth rate of 11.7%. In the coming period, with the development of the semiconductor and AI industries, the formation of a free trade zone, and an international financial center, the number of tourists and business visitors to Da Nang is projected to continue increasing in line with the growing demand for business.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An further informed the Japanese partners that the new Da Nang City has an area of over 11,800 km² and a population of over 3 million people, with diverse cultural and natural heritage resources. The merger opens up enormous potential in terms of space, infrastructure, and development resources, making Da Nang an important driving force center of the Central Vietnam Key Economic Region.
In its future development plan, Da Nang aims to become a high-quality tourism and service center, an innovative destination of Vietnam and Southeast Asia by 2030, and to become one of the leading tourism centers in Asia and the world by 2045.
“We hope that businesses will make the most of favorable factors such as the establishment of the new Da Nang City, the increase in direct flights, and the growing demand for business to expand cooperation, develop markets, and implement specific, substantive, and sustainable promotional programs, contributing to the achievement of the goals agreed upon by senior leaders,” said Mr. Mori Takero.
