According to the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, the demand of Hanoi residents during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 is predicted to increase sharply by 3 to 20%, depending on the product category.

Therefore, to prepare for the New Year and Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse 2026), 19 businesses from Hanoi and other provinces have participated in the price stabilization program, supplying goods through 10,700 sales points.

The volume of essential goods for Tet is determined based on demand three months before, during, and after Tet.

The Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade estimates the need for approximately 300,000 tons of rice, 60,000 tons of pork, and 334,000 tons of vegetables. For these items, distribution systems have been working with suppliers to ensure stable prices; however, the specific quantities will be updated closer to Tet (Lunar New Year).

As for processed foods, imports are expected to increase by 30% compared to the previous year, anticipating preferential treatment from manufacturers.

Supermarkets also reported that prices of goods have increased by about 10% compared to last year; however, they will implement deep discounts during the Lunar New Year season and flexibly expand promotional programs and product ranges to support consumers.

The Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade has requested relevant authorities to implement a plan to strictly control the market. Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Kieu Oanh, stated: "At the end of the year, commercial fraud becomes more complex, especially in the product categories for Tet (Lunar New Year). The department is strengthening coordination with various forces to prevent it early and protect consumer rights."

The Hanoi Market Management Department has issued a directive to strengthen inspections regarding violations related to pricing, origin of goods, and price listing at supermarkets, markets, and shopping centers. Units will intensify market inspections and controls, detecting and strictly handling cases of violations, commercial fraud, hoarding, unreasonable purchase and sale prices, especially for essential food items.

The Hanoi Market Management Department affirms that market inspections and controls to combat smuggling and counterfeit goods are linked to the goal of economic stability and do not affect the legitimate business operations of enterprises during the year-end period.
