"Schools can arrange for students to have four days off for the 2026 New Year (from January 1 to January 4, 2026)," said Mr. Nguyen Ha Nguyen - Deputy Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - at a conference on general education on the afternoon of December 9.
According to Mr. Nguyen, New Year 2026 falls on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Therefore, schools can proactively arrange for students to have a day off from Thursday, January 1, 2026, to Sunday, January 4, 2026. After that, make-up classes for Friday (January 2, 2026) can be done online.
It is known that most high schools in Ho Chi Minh City have set the final exam schedule for the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year from mid-December 2025. Students will complete the final exam before January 1, 2026.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said the city is currently promoting digital transformation in teaching and school management. The city's education and training sector aims to have at least 35% of the educational program content deployed online by 2025.
