On December 10th, the Trang Bom Regional Health Center (Dong Nai province) confirmed that a man in the area had contracted monkeypox.
The patient is Mr. HVL (33 years old, residing in Hamlet 2, Trang Bom Commune). This is the first monkeypox case recorded in Dong Nai in 2025.
According to the investigation, Mr. L. works as a freelance trader in the market and comes into contact with many people every day.
On November 24th, he developed sores on his neck, buttocks, and abdomen, and had a fever for two consecutive days.
Four days later, he was examined at the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital. There, a sample was taken and sent to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City for testing. The results showed that the patient tested positive for monkeypox virus.
Following examination and treatment, the ulcers and infections have now stabilized, the wounds have dried, and the patient has resumed normal activities.
The patient stated that from November 3rd to 24th, they did not leave the local area and did not have contact with foreigners.
He is currently living with his sister's family and has close contact with three family members.
According to the Trang Bom Regional Health Center, the patient stated that they had no sexual partner and no same-sex relationships prior to falling ill, and the source of infection is still unclear.
Currently, family members and surrounding households have not detected any unusual symptoms.
Immediately after the case was recorded, the Trang Bom Regional Health Center tightened control measures, urgently traced the source of infection, and limited the spread of the disease in the community.
The health sector has verified information, investigated epidemiological factors and contact history of the patient; instructed the patient on hygiene, self-isolation, minimizing contact with others, wearing masks, refraining from spitting indiscriminately, and regularly cleaning and disinfecting their home.
Simultaneously, the health sector is also strengthening community-based surveillance activities, monitoring the health of those in close contact with patients, and enhancing communication about the epidemic situation and recommendations for preventing and controlling monkeypox…
