On the afternoon of December 9, the leader of the People's Committee of Tran Bien ward, Dong Nai province confirmed the incident of wild monkeys attacking local residents.
Earlier on the morning of December 8, Ms. T. (residing in Tam Hiep ward) went to D.Q. restaurant on Vo Thi Sau street (Tran Bien ward) to have breakfast when she was suddenly attacked and bitten by a wild monkey, leaving clear teeth marks.
Fearing an infectious disease, Ms. T. went to the vaccination center to get vaccinated.
Then Ms. Trinh (Ms. T.'s sister) posted information and pictures of the monkey's bite on social media to warn.
"This is not just a matter of monkeys teasing people, but a safety risk, a risk of disease transmission and can happen to anyone, especially children," Ms. Trinh worried and hoped that the authorities would soon intervene to handle the matter thoroughly.
Following the above article, the restaurant representative called to apologize and expressed their desire to support the victim with vaccination costs. At the same time, they said they had reported the matter to the authorities for handling.
According to research, not only the woman above but many other people have also been attacked by wild monkeys, causing scratches and minor injuries.
"Just last Sunday, my aunt was also bitten by it. Normally, I often feed it, but today it came in and before I could feed it, it jumped on and bit her," said Mr. Phu.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Tan - Chairman of Tran Bien Ward People's Committee - said that he had sent ward officials to the restaurant where the monkey appeared to grasp the situation and find a solution.
According to Mr. Tan, in the old Buu Long ward area (after the merger, Tran Bien ward) there is a group of about 6 monkeys that often attack and take food from people's houses.
The locality has requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment for support and directed the militia to set traps to catch monkeys and hand them over to the authorities.
Regarding the incident, a representative of the Forestry Department (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai province) said that they are currently setting traps to catch wild monkeys that attack people.
According to this representative, the unit regularly organizes the capture of wild monkeys. Since the beginning of the year, it has captured many monkeys that cause trouble, steal food, and attack people.
