According to the registration list, the team has a total of 4 athletes: Dinh Phuong Thanh, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong, and Trinh Hai Khang.
During the practice sessions on the field, all of these athletes were healthy. Even when the organizers introduced the lineup on the morning of December 10, all four of them walked out into the stadium area at the same time.
However, only 3 people participated in the competition: Dinh Phuong Thanh, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong and Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien. The remaining person, Trinh Hai Khang, came out to warm up but then just sat on the sidelines.
The athlete born in 2000 still participated in supporting his teammates, but with limping steps. At the end of the competition day, coach of the Vietnamese men's gymnastics team Truong Minh Sang revealed that Hai Khang suffered an unfortunate injury.

"Initially, all four of our athletes were healthy. However, when warming up for the freestyle competition, Hai Khang had a bad landing. He said he heard a strange noise coming from his knee, and we immediately became suspicious.
The team doctor conducted a preliminary examination and stated that Khang's knee was problematic and currently quite loose. Khang could still play through the pain. However, this could have a long-term negative impact on his career. Therefore, the coaching staff decided to let him rest to preserve his career."
This is a rather unfortunate loss for Vietnamese gymnastics. Trinh Hai Khang is good at freestyle gymnastics and vaulting. At the SEA Games, he was strong enough to make it to the finals and aim for a medal.

In the qualifying round on the morning of December 10, all three remaining Vietnamese athletes performed well and won tickets to the finals. Nguyen Van Khanh Phong won tickets to the finals in the rings event, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien in the pommel horse event, and Dinh Phuong Thanh in the two events: horizontal bars and parallel bars.
Evaluating his players' performance, Mr. Truong Minh Sang said: "Overall, the coaching staff is quite satisfied. The athletes all did well, performing movements evenly and beautifully. However, there are still some small mistakes that we will help them overcome to do better in the finals."
At this year’s SEA Games, the men’s gymnastics team aims to win 2 to 3 gold medals. With the absence of Philippine world and Olympic champion Carlos Yulo, the opportunity for coach Truong Minh Sang and his team becomes brighter.
