On the afternoon of December 10th, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team played their opening match at the 33rd SEA Games. Against a much weaker opponent, Myanmar, the team secured an easy 3-0 victory (25-9, 25-10, 25-6) in just over an hour of play.
In this match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet gave almost all of the team members a chance to play. However, fans still felt disappointed that star player Tran Thi Thanh Thuy did not play a single minute.
Sharing his thoughts on this, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said: "The team's schedule is quite packed, with matches every day without a day off. Therefore, I have to plan carefully to allow everyone to rest and recuperate because the journey is still long."
In fact, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team had to play three group stage matches in three consecutive days. After defeating Myanmar, they continued to play against Malaysia on December 11-12. Then, on December 12, the whole team faced Indonesia.

If they advance, they will only have one day of rest before continuing to play in the semi-finals on December 14th. Their final match, whether the final or the bronze medal match, will also take place on December 15th.
Therefore, it's understandable why coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet didn't want to take a risk with Thanh Thuy. Not to mention, this athlete only recently joined the team after previously competing in Japan for the Gunma Green Wings club. The transition from a cold climate to a hot one requires more time for the athlete to adapt.
Another player who returned from Japan but was allowed to play was Tran Thi Bich Thuy. However, this athlete played as a middle blocker, so she was often substituted for a libero. Therefore, Bich Thuy's physical condition was less affected than Thanh Thuy's.
