Coach Mai Duc Chung's quality opening move helped the Vietnamese national team shine.
Strong spirit, incredible willpower, and an excellent approach to the match – that's what the Vietnamese women's team displayed brilliantly on the Chonburi pitch on the afternoon of December 11th in a do-or-die match against Myanmar, who had won convincingly in their two previous matches. Undeterred, undaunted, and unaffected by the pressure from the thousands of Myanmar fans filling the stands, the Vietnamese girls entered the game with boundless energy, showing great aggression and quickly demonstrating their mettle. As midfielder Bich Thuy once said, "The more difficult it is, the more motivated we become to win."

That motivation spurred each player's feet to work with great enthusiasm and focus, delivering a brilliant opening blow that stunned the opponent. In less than 15 minutes, aggressive ball challenges and strong attacks down the right flank resulted in two quick goals. First, a cross from right-back Tran Thi Duyen, and then a close-range shot from center-back Hoang Thi Loan that hit the crossbar, which was then headed in by the two smallest players on the women's team, Ngan Thi Van Su and Bich Thuy.

Two sweet goals, like "taking candy from a baby," showcased the class of the Vietnamese women's team. But the biggest highlight was the sound tactics employed by coach Mai Duc Chung in this match. Against a "favorite" opponent that Vietnam had defeated many times before, the coaching staff opted for a pressing game, applying relentless pressure that put Myanmar on the defensive. The cohesion between the lines and the close proximity of the players allowed the Vietnamese girls to control the game exceptionally well, constantly creating disruptions and completely dominating the match.

Impressive performance and outstanding trident
The biggest highlight of this match was the versatile role of midfielder Ngan Thi Van Su. She was pushed higher up the pitch to play alongside Bich Thuy and Hai Yen, forming a very dangerous attacking trident. Her energy, skillful technique, and incredible agility in positioning and holding up the ball made the number 21 of the women's national team play exceptionally well. She appeared on both wings and in the center, disrupting the Myanmar defense and causing the opponent to falter with her spectacular bursts of speed. Van Su's opening goal in the 8th minute not only relieved the psychological pressure early on but also acted as a stimulant, leading the Vietnamese women's team to play a better-than-expected game, befitting their status as the reigning SEA Games champions.

In this match, coach Mai Duc Chung continued to field a new central defensive pairing, quite different from the previous two games. Hoang Thi Loan and Tran Thi Thu started for the first time, but this was not surprising. After experimenting with two different young central defensive pairings in the matches against Malaysia (Cu Thi Huynh Nhu - Tran Thi Duyen) and the Philippines (Nguyen Kim Yen - Tran Hai Linh), Coach Chung needed experienced key players for this crucial match.

The presence of this experienced central defensive duo brought reassurance to the defense. Especially in the second half, against Myanmar's desperate counter-attack, this pair, along with sweeper Diem My, held firm and solid, helping to protect goalkeeper Kim Thanh's goal. These were sensible adjustments that created a solid defense, giving the Vietnamese women's national team a boost.

The 2-0 victory gave the Vietnamese girls 6 points and a goal difference of 9/1, placing them at the top of Group B and advancing to the semi-finals where they will face Indonesia (second in Group A) at 4 PM on December 14th at Thai University Stadium. It was a bitter defeat for Myanmar; they also had 6 points, but their goal difference was 5/3, placing them behind the Philippines, who also had 6 points and a goal difference of 6/2, resulting in their elimination. The Philippines (second in Group B) will face Thailand (first in Group A) at 6:30 PM on December 14th at Chonburi Stadium. Congratulations to the Vietnamese girls for successfully navigating this narrow gap and continuing their journey to defend their gold medal.
