Coach Kim Sang Sik's team will face U22 Malaysia in the final match of Group B in the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games at 4 PM tomorrow (December 10th). Both teams have already won against U22 Laos, but Malaysia is currently leading Group B due to a goal difference of +3, which is better than U22 Vietnam (+1).
The New Straits Times reported that although the Malaysian U22 coach understands Vietnam's strength, he will not play defensively. Instead, Nafuzi Zain will instruct his players to proactively attack in order to secure a victory against Vietnam U22.
The Malaysian strategist shared: “Vietnam is a very strong team; they have shown their class. We know they are superior to us in many areas. But what matters is how we play and how we prepare.”
Our goal has always been to win and get three points. At the very least, we can't afford to lose; that alone would be enough to get us into the semi-finals. We are preparing very thoroughly for this match."
The head coach of the Malaysian U22 team also stated that he and his coaching staff had thoroughly studied Vietnam's playing style in order to find suitable countermeasures. Accordingly, Malaysia plans to adjust their tactics compared to the match against Laos U22.
On the other hand, the results of the matches in the other two groups were favorable to both Vietnam and Malaysia, especially Indonesia's loss in their opening match. Therefore, both teams only needed a draw to advance to the semi-finals.
In this context, Indonesian media and fans are expressing concern about the scenario of "Vietnam drawing with Malaysia". On social media, many Indonesian fans are also worried that the U22 Vietnam and Malaysia teams will both advance to the semi-finals.
