On December 10th, at its 8th session of the 10th term, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Council passed a resolution unanimously assigning the Provincial People's Committee as the competent authority to implement the project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to the Provincial Administrative Center and Long Thanh Airport under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, passing through Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

The project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to the Dong Nai Administrative Center and Long Thanh Airport follows the planned route. The line starts from station S0 (Tan Van), crosses the Dong Nai River, runs along National Highway 1, and connects to station SC of the new Administrative Center. From there, the line follows the planned Bien Hoa - Long Thanh railway corridor, runs along Provincial Road 771, crosses the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway, connects to station SA, and then continues along the railway corridor to Long Thanh Airport.
The total length of the route is about 41.4km, including 3 main sections: Section 1 from station S0 to the administrative center station (SC), about 6.1km long; Section 2 from the administrative center station (SC) to station SA (to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line), about 28.2km long; Section 3 (section to the airport) about 7.1km long (new route and parallel to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro line, North-South high-speed railway).

Technology type: Metro-style urban rail (MRT). Maximum design speed is 120 km/h (90 km/h in tunnels) and maximum operating speed is 110 km/h (80 km/h in tunnels). Uses electronically controlled motorized trains (EMU); Track gauge 1,435 mm (double track). The project has a total investment of over VND 60,200 billion (including over VND 4,300 billion for compensation and resettlement). Implementation period: from 2026 to 2029.
According to the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, the connecting routes between the two localities, such as ring roads, expressways, and regional links, are being prioritized for implementation. However, they still fall short of expectations and the needs for transportation connectivity, especially when Long Thanh International Airport officially comes into operation.
At the same time, the need for connectivity between Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport is crucial to ensure parallel operation between the two airports. Long Thanh Airport will receive a portion of the passenger and cargo traffic from Tan Son Nhat Airport when it becomes operational.
Therefore, early research and implementation of other connecting transportation projects such as metro, high-speed rail, and connecting bridges on inter-regional roads are essential to meet transportation connectivity needs, reduce travel time, and especially shorten the distance and travel time from Tan Son Nhat Airport to Long Thanh Airport.
