Tran Hung Nguyen won the gold medal in the men's 200m individual medley.
In the men's 200m individual medley final, held this evening (December 10th) at the Hua Mark Sports Complex swimming pool (Bangkok, Thailand), Tran Hung Nguyen finished first with a time of 2 minutes 02 seconds 11. This is the fourth consecutive SEA Games gold medal for Tran Hung Nguyen in the men's 200m individual medley. It is also his tenth gold medal in the SEA Games. This achievement makes him one of the strongest swimmers in Southeast Asia for many years.
After finishing first tonight, Tran Hung Nguyen said: “I am happy and proud of myself, because this is my first gold medal in swimming at the 33rd SEA Games and my 10th gold medal in all the SEA Games I have participated in.”
"I tried to distribute my energy wisely for the qualifying round this morning and for the final race this evening. In the qualifying round, I mainly focused on getting a feel for the competition. But in the final race, I used 100% of my strength," Hung Nguyen added.

In the opening meters of the final race, Hung Nguyen was trailing his competitors. It wasn't until the last 50 meters that he pulled ahead. However, Hung Nguyen revealed that there was no special strategy involved; his job was simply to try his best.
This "super swimmer" of Southeast Asia shared: "In the final race, I didn't pay too much attention to choosing a strategy for each stage, but focused only on myself, swimming as fast as I could."
"To be honest, I didn't look at my competitors, I didn't know what they were like at that moment. I just tried to swim as fast as I could to reach the finish line. Only when I touched the edge of the pool did I look around and up at the scoreboard and see my result. At that moment, all the fatigue seemed to disappear, and I was so happy to be the winner."
"I hope my gold medal today will bring good luck to the Vietnamese swimming team at this SEA Games. I myself have another event to compete in tomorrow," Hung Nguyen confided.

Although she only won a silver medal, this is a very encouraging achievement for My Tien. This young woman is only 20 years old and still has a bright future ahead of her.
In the following days of competition, Vietnamese swimming still has strong events to compete in, such as the 400m and 1500m freestyle events with Nguyen Huy Hoang, or the team relay events…
